Can a PRS tripod be used for a spotting scope?

Title says it all... I'm looking for an inexpensive tripod that's low enough to use while prone.

Their tripods seem to be just the ticket and the panhead seems it may work.

Has anyone done this?

Yup they can, I can rest my USO in the cradle or remove the cradle and attach it to the tripod. The knobs werent really set up for it so adjustments can be tricky but it would work in a pinch.

that's what I do too.

lelandEOD,
It kinda depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your optics platform. Are you wanting something for prone and bench top or truck hood or something that can get you from prone to kneeling or standing? The new small pan tilt (which is all that SLIK offers now - I still have a few of the small ball head, but can't get anymore once they are gone) is nice and they have made some improvements to include a steel boss for the head to swivel on, lever lock legs and a black finish. What they have yet to do for me is offer the small with an integrated quick detach set up like the medium and large tripod we offer. We do offer an adapter set that allows you turn the small pan/tilt into a Quick Detach set up though. The disadvantage of the pan/tilt verses the ball head is they are not as forgiving on uneven surfaces. The ball head allows you to adjust the head to deal with any angle while the pan/tilt only adjust in two planes. Feel free to give me a call with any questions you may have 281-541-1549.

Drop a few more coins and get the medium. Adjusts as low as the small yet goes much taller. The wide legs are much more stable with a spotter attached, e.g., my Bushnell Excursion with the small tripod kept tipping over just like Danel said it would when he recommended I should get the medium. I just received the medium about a week ago from Danel and this thing is top shelf. Its bigger and heavier but less frustration in use.

Thanks for the feedback, Denel.

I ordered a medium ballmount tonight so I'm looking forward to getting it to the range.
