Can I get real food in California??

Was looking for eating places near where we are staying in Santa Ana. This is a description from one of the closest:

There are lots of good places to eat in the area. If you like Mexican food there will be several choices in Santa Ana alone. Take a little bit of a drive to Costa Mesa, Newport, Irvine or Tustin and you will have many options.

Go to El Matador in Costa Mesa...some of the best Mexican food around and nothing pretentious. Great people

When I was in Austrailia I found that they eat very similar to the way I ate growing up in central Texas, barbeque, lots of fish and sausage or bangers I think is what they called them though the ones I had were crocodile and emu.
My advise is if you can't find a place within walking distance that you can get a good ribeye with all the trimmings your in the wrong place.

The Counter in Newport Beach has great burgers and some good beers as well. Lots of great Sushi places too. There are a couple of decent BBQ places, well decent for CA. Nothing like you can get in Texas or the south. Pretty much any type of food you want within a 20 mile or less radius of Santa Ana.

I'm still stuck in OC/So Cal. If anyone is visiting and needs suggestions for places to eat or things to do just ask.

True, but in SoCal, Yelp is pretty well contributed to by folks. As HB said, the rent here is high. Shitty restaurants don't last long...

Interesting...I have a bunch of food/restaurant reviews including some horrendously poor ones that have never been expunged despite some interesting responses from the proprietor.

Sorry to disagree. I find YELP pretty useful when I am in areas that I don't know and I travel a lot. I really think if you take the time and read the reviews and look at the photos, you can get some useful help. I have used it for restaurants, bars and a few other services.

And BTW, you're using an article with an opinion from the 9th circuit court of appeals!? I seldom agree with ANYTHING coming out of the 9th circuit. Their view on all things aligns with their view of people like me. They can go fuck themselves.
