Hi, new owner of a Remington 700 SPS AAC-SD 308 20" heavy barrel, and about to mount a Nikon M-308 scope, w the BDC 800 reticle.
I would like some help on whether to mount the scope on standard weaver bases (2 piece) or the Nightforce 2-piece bases with a 20 MOA slope built in (I have both).
The Nikon scope comes with a 20 MOA one piece rail and rings, which I'm not using because the solid rail limits access to the top of the receiver (not using a DBM).
So, my presumption is that Nikon thinks 20 MOA is the right setup for that scope and its intended purpose ( ranges out to 800 yds), but I've heard that sighting in this scope with a 20 MOA base at 100 yds is difficult.
I am using Leopold PRW medium rings, for a one inch tube. The Nikon scope has a 42mm objective and is 13.5" long.
2 important factors are:
1) the range I shoot at has a 100 and 200 yd range. I will be using the rifle for some hunting (up to 200 yds), but mostly target shooting and would really like to test myself out to 800 yds+.
2) the Nikon scope has 40 MOA "listed" adjustability, but I got 220 clicks range, which is 55 MOA actual. Theoretically this is enough range to get me to zero with a 20 MOA, but I just don't know how much adjustment I need for the ring and base setup that I want to use.
Has anyone had experience with a similar setup, and whether or not they were able to get zero at 100 yds with the 20 MOA base with this scope? Thanks!
