I just bought it. It's a NOS Colt barrel from 2013. I don't want to list the seller but they have given me a shipping label to exchange it luckily.

Flitz on a cotton buffing wheel from the dremel and they’ll be fine. Could even use the polishing compound that comes with most dremel kits.

A rotary tool, a couple Cratex points, and about five minutes would easily clean that up.

Save your time and energy, send it back as you are and forget about what the barrel looks like or "how does it shoot?"

It's chrome lined and looks new.

I'd be for polishing out the machining marks anyway. I'd be willing to bet that you would be in great shape.

It will probably keep nagging at you unless you plan to treat it as a plinker / beater…

Use it as a mule for tabletop arts & crafts, and see what you could do with some kind of power tool.

Personally, AR barrels (with their associated extensions) are a dime a dozen nowadays - I’d probably just get a new one.

In all honesty it’s a chrome lined colt barrel, not a stainless douglas begging for 77gr otm. Just clean up the rust and shoot the thing.

I still change my oil regularly and don't slam the doors on my beater car. Just because it isn't the best of the best doesn't mean you shouldn't make it the best it could be.

Well yes, that’s why you got recommendations to just polish it up.

But as I said, it’s your rifle so do what you want with it.

It may scuff up a few bullets if you left it as is while drag over smoothing it back out again but I don’t think that would have any “functional” issues.

It’s a 12 year old chrome lines AR barrel. Clean it up and shoot it.
