Gunsmithing Can we talk 700 magnum bolt face extractors?

Didn't post to turn this into a bash PTG session. Quality product terrible service, I know i have dealt with them for years.

I was looking for info and users of the M16 extractor in the magnum bolt face. Is there a reason the PTG is better. How is the secondary extraction on the PTG one piece bolts. The bolt handle was ground and threaded until it was too short, so I was going to put a new handle on it, get that threaded and get the m16 extractor cut, time and tig the bolt handle. Any other work I need to get done to the rifle to make an m16 or mini m16 work?

They are at Heat Treat now. We have two types: The conventional M16 with our little spin on it along with the new "evo" type. Evo is basically like a 1911 or Accuracy International. Nothing to really reinvent there. I got tired of waiting as it seems these things are always out of stock, so we elected to begin making our own. So far so good.

Any clearance issues with the extractors? I.E not enough room for the extractor to pop over the rim of the case due to clearance in the bolt nose recess.

It's a function of available real estate at that point. If an aftermarket barrel is fitted and the person doing it elects to run the breech ring down to minuscule amounts, then your likely to have an issue if you run any M16 extractor. That is something outside of my control. Keep it within dimensions known to work and its smooth sailing. The magnum and "boomer magnum", .545/.590 bolt face cartridges seem to be the ones most susceptible to this. .390, .450, and.480 runs well below the bolt circle periphery.

Super snug breech rings do nothing. The gun doesn't shoot better, it doesn't function better, it does nothing. -other than complicate things on a number of levels. Dirt, additional items later, etc... If it did, I would expect to see actions using it routinely outrunning those that don't. (Rem vs Tikka, etc...)

Its a Criterion barrel. I don't know what the breech ring diameter is, but it would be easy enough for me to measure, if its a measurement where .000 accuracy will suffice. What size breech ring should I need for the .545 bolt face? Thanks for taking the time.

I typically run an M700 breech ring ID to .725". It's more about the bolt nose OD than anything else. .725" gives the end user the option to change extractor geo later down the road should the need arise.

Lapua size cases are run on their own set of rules. Most of the bolts are .750" OD (or should be at least) so the ring must be enlarged. In that case I'd likely go to .775 on the ID of the ring.
