Usually in the hand or placed on a table/cradle. Not a ton of movement with your guns like in USPSA or 3 Gun. You don’t have to football your shotgun into a pickle barrel from 4 yards away or anything.
Thank you for your answer. We are playing dress up for Helldorado Days in Tombstone AZ. I'm looking for ideas to carry a double barrel shotgun all day.

If you're going to be carrying them around all day, I'd recommend a gun cart - just like all the shooters at a CAS match use. The rifle and shotgun are not carried, per se, during the match and they are place on props/tables prior to shooting a stage.
Slings were available back in the day, though. Mostly homemade for a SxS.
