Hey Guys,

Looking to get a build done on a rifle, and Im stuck between a few calibres and am looking for some first hand information.

How many reloads are you guys getting out of 338 brass and at what loads?

Same question for 260...

Appreciate the input.

Have a good one.

I've got Lapua brand 338LM that just went 13-14 cycles during the Berger 250 test.

I'd started with 80 Lapua brand and 20 Norma, back in early '06, stuck a Lapua in a kinetic bullet puller, but the other 79 have between a low of 7-8 cycles to that 13-14, with a batch of 20 right behind them at 12, or 13.

No neck splits, primer pockets are snuggish on most of them and the inside of the web area is looking purty. I did have a neck split on a Norma, after only two cycles, however.

I mostly neck size, so stretching isn't something I worry about, but I was experimenting with various dies in the beginning, including a Hornady generic .338 neck sizer, which was etching a nice picket fence around the necks, so I wasn't exactly gentle on them back then.

I generally load in the 2850-2950 fps range, so not exactly hot, nor cold.

Lapua .260 is outstanding out of the box. I have some load development rounds that have got 10 firings on them now... some quite stout and the primer pockets are finally getting to the point that I don't get red-faced (not to mention a little concerned and turn my head) when I seat them. Yes.. they are that tight when new.

I'm using Winchester 7-08 brass formed to .260 now in my match rifle. It shoots a third-MOA consistently, but was a ton of work to uniform and needed to be annealed out of the box. It's also about .006" smaller at the base than Lapua, so you get expansion above the web to fill the chamber. Lapua is straight from base to neck. Lapua shot quarter-minute and needed nothing other than an expander ball in the neck to assure roundness.

If you have more time than money. Buy Win. 7-08. If you have more money than time... by all means... the Lapua is top drawer.
