Hi All

Can anyone please tell me what is the minimum and maximum clearance distance from the od of a loaded round to the diameter of the neck area in the chamber? would it be .001", .002" etc.
This is to avoid high pressures or split case necks.

many thnx in advance

I prefer 0.0015/side as a minimum, can go less than that but for a field rifle you are asking for problems.

Over 0.003/side you are working brass more then I'd suggest.

0.002/side is a good happy medium.

Well, the issue for minimum clearance is enough to prevent pinching the bullet in place. The BR guys have proven that with careful work to insure it, a thousant of clearance is sufficent. Me, I perfer at least three thou for certain safety but it's rare I can get even that tight a fit with factory cases.

Maximum clearance is rarely a problem for us to deal with being that it's controlled by the chamber and case necks that are usually quite a bit thinner than we would like.
