Is anyone using the BR2 primers in 308 win with better or same results as Fed 210M primers. I know alot of times it is all about what the gun likes , but from just talking to some they are saying they have found really no diff. with the same load. And also thoughts on just using fED 210's

Re: CCI BRS primers and 308 win

"Most accurate 308 load" story in Handloader used CCI magnums to get best groups.

Re: CCI BRS primers and 308 win

I can get plenty of regular 210's and BR2's but before I commit to these I was just wondering what the Hides opinion was. I like most have had such good luck with the 210M it's just hard to get away from.

Re: CCI BRS primers and 308 win

43.3 gr Varget, CCI BR-2 primer, Sierra Match King HPBT 175gr, .010 off lands in a Lapua case. Will shoot better than I can. krw

Might add thats in a 1-11 twist bbl

Re: CCI BRS primers and 308 win

You seem to be very fortunate, as many people are having a hard time getting 210M. Around here it's hard to find any match primers, 210M's, 215M or BR-2.
Regular primers are about 3.50 per hundred off the shelves. Forunatly I have not resorted to buying of the shelves...yet.

Re: CCI BRS primers and 308 win

I wish I could get 210M's. They are like tying to find hens teethOne of the local shops has some BR2's and some some Fed LR's

Re: CCI BRS primers and 308 win

I'm going to do some more testing, but here are some of my preliminary results:

load.jpg

2.775" COAL

load2.jpg

2.775" COAL

I find that I get flyers with 210M's that I don't seem to get with BR2's. You can see the delayed ignition in one of the 210M traces, which I believe to be the cause of this. I also have some WLR, WLRM, CCI 250 that I plan to test.

Re: CCI BRS primers and 308 win

I dug up some old data I logged last summer on the chrono only:

Load:
308 Win.
155 Scenar
Lapua brass
42.7 gr. H4895
2.800" COAL (about 0.008" into the lands)

Velocities (10 rds):

210M
2890 fps (avg.)
SD=21
ES=61

BR2
2903 fps (avg.)
SD=11
ES=35

WLR
2895 fps. (avg.)
SD=20
ES=57

Graf's and sons has CCI BR-2 primers.. I bought 1000ct about an hour ago..

Re: CCI BRS primers and 308 win

I don't think you're loosing much, if anything with the BR2's. Its really worth experimenting with primers though. They make a lot more difference than many people relalize and I don't believe there is one single primer that works the best in every load. I get the best results with WLR in some loads.

Re: CCI BRS primers and 308 win

I have tried the standard Fed's with the same load and they seemed to do just fine, I don't have the equipment you have which would be nice. I have really never tried the CCI BR's but some swear by them being a more consistent primer than the 210M's. It's like stated earlier, if it works in your gun thats what you go with. Some rifles are not as picky as others, you could use a lump of coal and a match and it still shoots good. Go figure...
