Hey guys between these two, I'm looking for a ccw, doesn't need to be a true pocket pistol but a small caliber handgun that won't break the bank. I can get the walther pk380 new right now for $340 or I have a local guy unloading a like new kahr P9 for $400. Any major pros or cons between the two and any reason to simply stay away from either.
Thanks

Re: CCW gun walther pk380 or kahr P9

NY700,
I have a Kahr MK9(stainless version). I have shot the PM9 a fair amount.
I am continually amazed how well these Kahr's shoot. Recoil is VERY controllable even on the polymer version. Men, women, kids, all are amazed not only at the lack of recoil but the accuracy as well. I can’t recommend the Kahr pistols enough.
I've owned 2 380's (Walther and Sig). I'm not a fan. Too much snap, not fun to shot. Still have yet to meet anyone that "enjoys" shooting 380.
Obviously the best thing to do would be to shoot them both and see for yourself.
380 vs 9mm, bottom line, why buy sub caliber when the sizes of guns and capacity are virtually the same.

the walther pk380 shoots great, easy to conceal and is to me very accurate.with that said the 380 ammo is pricey.so that might also be a factor if you plan to train with what you carry.

I've shot both the Kahr 9mm(can't remember which variant) and the PK380. Khar is well built but a little pricey for my taste and I don't like the trigger design. Too long a pull. Almost like a revolver.
The PK380 is a nice little gun. Not expensive, not too heavy and fair trigger.
380 FMJ is not that expensive for practice. I would say that if I were choosing it would be 9mm over 380. Especially if the guns were of similar size and weight.

Kahr is a nice gun, haven't shot that model, just a PM9. The Walther is a pretty big gun for a .380. I would look at the Ruger LC9 or Taurus 9 Slim. Both in that ballpark money wise, but a larger and cheaper 9mm.

There are a couple of guns at Academy that I don't want, but the price is almost too good to pass up.

I've NOT fired the PK, just so that is out there. I have manipulated one dry a number of times.

For CCW purposes, as you state, I believe the P9 would be the better option. 1) Superior caliber/firepower. 2) Ease of controls and LACK of snagging potential. 3) More options already out there for the gun(holster, mag, sights, etc.)

The PK feels nice in the hand, but so does a Kahr. I've fired the CW9 and CW40, was pretty pleased with both.

I think the controls on the PK380 stick out a bit too much in my humble opinion.

FWIW, I love the S&W Bodyguard 380 for a pocket pistol.

Good luck!

If your not looking for a true pocket pistol what about the lc9? Just put 100 rounds through mine today. I actually was looking for something just a smidge bigger than the lcp. The Lc9 is more than a smidge bigger so I was going to get rid of it and look at the rhobahrs(sp?). Before I re-sold the lc9 I figured I might as well shoot the damn thing. Well that was a mistake, I'm keeping the ruger lc9 now. Shot much better than I had anticipated.

Based on my experience with a Walther P-22, You couldn't GIVE a PK-380.

A few months I bought a P9 for $400 (after experience with my BIL's Taurus 709 Slim). I'm delighted.
Smooth trigger, accuracy. I now wonder about the PM9 and the .380.

At the prices quoted, jump on the P9 and don't look back.
