Hey all,
I have a" Sako a7 Long Range" (the cabelas exclusive) build in 300 Win Mag going on at the moment, I am curious if I need to change the chamber any to shoot 215 to 230 gr bullets to the best of their ability. I read a few posts about custom reamers for this and it got me thinking. I know sako plans on lighter bullets as they use an 11" twist. I didn't know if pressure problems would arise if I try and stuff these in with over all lengths of more than 3.34.
I used bergers twist rate calculator and even though they only recommend up to 210 for an 11" twist the calculator shows based on the speeds I get from ramshot mag pro I still have enough longitudinal stability to run the 230.
I will have to run them a short c.o.a.l. to mag feed or single feed. I am going to try and inlet for CDI bottom metal that they make tor the model 70 long action as they have the same screw spacing. I don't know what yet other problems I will run into with it but it's the next step in the plan.
Let me know what you know that I don't yet know, I would appreciate it.
