Charge range? Retumbo/208's...

Just looking for a conformation on the viable charge range for 208's with Retumbo?

I have one instance of data off of the Hide but want some more conformation before I load up some for a velocity match with my best H1000 load.

From Berger

210 gr VLD (69.5 - 77.2 gr Retumbo)

??I thought Retumbo was SLOWER than H1000?? Why the lighter max charge???

I'll assume you are talking about a 300 Wm. Retumbo is not as dence as H-1000, so a lighter weight will fill more case volume. I just finished switching from Retumbo to H-1000 myself. These are my two loads in MY rifle.

300 WM 26" 1in 10"
WW Brass
WLRM primers
77.5gr H-Retumbo
210 VLD Moly'd seated to 3.630" (.002" off the lands)

Same rifle
Same charge,etc. with 208 A-Max was the same except the velocity for the bergers was a tad slower.

I switched due a large temp variance with Retumbo. Shot faster/hotter when cold. Can't explain it. Hope the H-1000 doesn't do the same.

Big, what was your velocity for 77.5 gr Retumbo?

Ave was in the 2880's -2960's depending on temp. Like I said I was having temp issues with that load. 70* day was 2880's, but when I shot it @ 35* it was up to 2960's. Still can't explain it.
I'm running 78.6gr. H-1000 now, & getting 2940 fps @ 60*-70*. I hope it stays there when it gets cold.

208 Amax oal 3.630 (0.005 off)
2950FPS
200yds only so far but under 1/2 moa,..she go's to 1k this coming weekend,..we'll see how she does,..have high hopes.
