Just wondering if anyone has some user end information on the bcm gunfighter (with atv mod) and pri gasbuster charging handles compared to a standard charging handle. To be used on a 14" middy w/ can.

Looking for gas blocking capability and ease on single hand charging.
also will cary the rifle with a viking tactics sling, wondering about a big ass latch digging into gear/ chest.

Re: Charging handles?

I used an M16A4 with a gas buster for my last deployment and wasnt super fond of it. Better than the standard but not great.
With all the sand and such in Iraq the gasbuster was sort of a pain in the ass. I dont know why, but sometimes I really hated it

Then a buddy of mine bought a complete BCM rifle and it came with a mod4 gunfighter and I was in love. I ordered one 5 minutes later. They are really well designed. They pull easier and function far better than standard and the gas buster in my experience and I now put them in all my guns.

Re: Charging handles?

I have been running gasbusters on almost everyone of my ar's I shoot suppressed and I never have had issues running them gritty or getting caught on my chest rig. I don't deploy anymore but I just ran 3K rounds through my 10.5 and almost all of it was suppressed in the sand in arizona and it worked great.

Re: Charging handles?

I have rifles with the BCM Large (Mod3) and Medium (Mod4)latches, and the BCM is by far the best charging handle I've used. It is a lot more rigid than a standard mil-spec charging handle, as well as most aftermarket option handles.

If you have a scoped rifle, go with the Mod3. If you have a combat/duty/training rifle, get a Mod4. The Small (Mod5) is probably decent, but I think that if you go smaller than the medium, you lose a lot of the advantage that the latch gives you.

I have tried the PRI, and I was not impressed. If you're a right-handed shooter, it's not all that bad. However, if you are left-handed, or you transition over to the left during your training/duty, it's a very problematic item.

Re: Charging handles?

+1 for Mod 4 BCM Gunfighter. I read a lot about the PRI's breaking to be honest. My stock charging handle needed to be pulled with 2 fingers and the BCm is a 1 finger job. Do not hesitate to get a BCM.

Re: Charging handles?

I run BCM's on all three of my AR's and my LR308. I have been EXTREMELY pleased with their performance. I shoot a fair amount of 3 gun and the BCM handle in conjunction with a BAD lever makes it very simple to "unload and show clear" by locking the bolt back at the end of a stage with two simple movements. It also works great for malfunction drills. I honestly can't say enough good things about the BCM's. Check Bravo Co directly, they typically have the best price around; especially on the 7.62 sized handle.

+2 on the BCM Mod 4

100% these rock!

Re: Charging handles?

Extremely happy with the BCM mod4.
It felt a little rough when new but after a thin application of Slip2000 on the BCM's finish my fairly new AR functioned just as smooth as a salty M4 that had thousands of rounds through it.

The mod3's latch seems a bit long unless you are using a large mounted optic.

Aluminum.

Re: Charging handles?

It's aluminum, but don't let that make you think it isn't bomb proof. It's really beefed up and the way they redesigned the latch action makes it impossible (from what I have seen anyway) to get the tell-tale bends in the lower half of the charging handles from repeated or aggressive use.

Re: Charging handles?

I have BCM large handled charging handles on all three of my AR style rifles and love them. it really makes a big difference when you have a scope in the way as well so the larger handles were a no brainer for me

Re: Charging handles?

looks like i'm the only one runnin PRI's, have two on a couple AR's and one on my AR-10T SASS... i'm shooting suppressors on everything and have never got blowback, and they are built well, over sized latch works great in the winter when i can't get my fingers on it... although they are about 2X the price of the vltors.

Re: Charging handles?

have 2 with the PRI Gasbusters, and 4 with BCM Gunfighters

have never read any first hand info of breakage with PRI or any
other problems--not sure why OP did not like it

that said I hope the future holds a merge of the 2 best charge handles---I want the best features of both in 1

Agreed, replaced 2 of my AR's CH's with the BCM Mod4. Worth every penny it cost.

Re: Charging handles?

I have just run across this discussion about the BCM handles.

Question: I have a scoped LR308 (SASS) setup and Badger adapter on the charging handle. Okay... but not great. Its my understanding that the BCM Mod 3 is the lever for this rifle? I would like to hear some input from some of you that is using this particular handle on the 308.

Would the BCM allow for one-handed (off hand) loading? The Badger lever setup doesn't

Yes, the BCM enables one handed loading. Combine it with a BAD(Battery Assist Device) reloads, malfunction drills, ect become much simpler. Phase 5 Tac makes a nice BAD lever for the AR-10 platforms.
