I'm looking for some cheap 9mm bullets to reload for an mp5. Any suggestions? Leaning towards some berrys bullets right now just looking for some suggestions. Thanks.
I have also been going through the same exercise lately. I have been re-arranging and condensing my inventory and now have all my reloading supplies categorized, sorted by caliber and (most importantly) in one place. I just bought and loaded up some "Zero" brand 147gr FMJ's (subsonic) for my P227 w/SiCo Osprey. I noticed that with "normal" crimp adjustment, the bullets will rotate in the finished cartridge, when twisted. I set the crimp die lower and to get rounds that would not do that, resulted in slight creasing of the side of the brass below the bullet. I pulled a couple of rounds and found that yes, the bullets did have crimp rings (so they would not have likely moved in/out, longer/shorter). I just don't like the fact that the bullets rotate. I also had the same issue with some copper wash plated 147grs (forget who the mfr was). I surmise that the reason for the loose fit is a very thin copper jacket (Zero FMJ) or copper wash plated(unknown mfr). In other words, the thinner the copper jacket, the less support there is for the crimp.
I also have a box of 147gr truncated cone Montana Gold bullets and as I recall, I have not had that problem with them. Perhaps their copper jackets are thicker. I'm going to load up a few and I'll report back. http://montanagoldbullet.com/index.php/cases/9mm-147gr-cmj.html
My favorite copper coated bullet as well. They are very consistent compared to some other brands I've used. Cheap enough that I ditched lead bullets so no more smoke from the wax anymore or wax build up in the seating die!
These are what I use to bulk load with - and use in all my 9's they run perfectly in everything from my MP5's to my P1908 and all my more modern 9mm's as well one load does it all for plinking / blasting = Titegroup at 4.5gr and a 124gr Xtreme any SP primer and you are good to go (4.8gr if you use the 115gr's)
