I don't know if this is the correct forum for this post but here goes anyhow. There is a guy here in my town that wants to sell a 22-250 BLR he claims that it has been shot under 100 times and for all intents and purposes the gun looks great from the outside. I am just wondering what I should be looking for on the inside to tell me if the gun is still in good condition?

Thanks

Re: Check a rifle before you buy

If your looking to see if it has only fired 100 rounds, take a look a the stock around the grip for exceesive use. A well used rifle will be like a steering wheel in a car, the grip will be almost polished by the hand. Also take a look at the bolt for exceesive wear, the crown also, look at that and see how uniform it is. The magazine will also show exceesive wear if its been used more than 100 shots. And really after that, if you could get the guy to take you for a test fire. Your gut instinct will tell a lot if you check all these things.

+1, that's about the only way you're going to be able to tell and even then if you're not sure what you're looking for, or at, that won't help you either.

Thanks guys, I am gonna have to be really careful on this one because he just told me that he reloaded all of his own ammo. (not usually a problem but this guy didn't seem to know anything about reloading *hehe*).

Isn't it crazy though how well the Remington's shoot for looking the way they do??

A rifle is useless without handloading, so I wouldn't find that strange at all.

I have guns that have never fired even a single round of factory ammo.

Me too, but his caveat that the guy can't tell him anything about reloading sounds suspect. It would make my BS-o-meter start flipping out.

It is. It just irks me to know the chamber isn't concentric. But My LTR shoots like a laser for 200+ shots w/o cleaning. I don't clean anymore really, just dry brush it.
