I bought a small Sebenza a few months ago and the knife it too tight, meaning it is not easy to open with a finger flip. I have Bradleys and Benchmades with the same titanium frame lock, but have no problem with them what so ever. They open up very smoothly. I tried loosening the screws and that made no impact. It is clearly the tension of the frame lock on the blade. Is that normal? Should I try to take it apart and use a vise to reduce the tension? I don't carry it because of that and it is a shame to leave a $350 blade in the drawer.

Any commnets from others who might own one?

Re: Chris Reeve Small Sebenza Question

I have a titanium Small Sebenza as my daily carry knife, Love it, solid as a rock, light and thin. It took a little time to work in and does not simply flip open, but it opens pretty smooth.

Re: Chris Reeve Small Sebenza Question

One nice thing about Sebbys is they go back together just like they came apart.

I'd take it apart, clean it real well, and lightly grease the surfaces in the pivot.

I have carried a large Sebby for years and I pull it apart and grease it every once in a while just like this.

Good luck

ETA: these are not designed to flip open, however you should have no issue opening it with just your thumb and the stud.

Re: Chris Reeve Small Sebenza Question

Thanks guys! I took it apart and polished both the tang area and the copper washers with Flitz metal polish and some diamond polishing paper, as well as a minor adjustment to the frame lock. It is much smoother now.

I agree it is a much thinner knife for carry. I have been carrying my smaller Bradley and sometimes carry the Damasteel version, which I find to be extremely sharp.

I might try for the larger Sebenza, as well as one in Damasteel, one day soon.
