1. Where someone has something transferred in and then wont' come in to do a Form 4.
2. They do the Form 4, it's approved but won't come in to pick up said item(s).

What can / can't you do with the items because it's taking up space ?!

Maybe one who passed away while waiting for approval?

For 4's can be voided by writing VOID across the face of the form and returning it to ATF. As far as an item that is still registered to you, you can either return it to the original transferor or keep it. If it's been paid for and you issued a receipt, you'll need to contact a local legal expert to determine how to void the sale, either by refund or by some unclaimed property method.

Multitude of reasons......post approval violation of domestic violence laws, a felony charge, mental issues and as simple as stated above...family legal issues or bankruptcy.

We had one where there were multiple firearms purchases well over $5,000, paid in full when ordered in person who simply disappeared and his name with exact DOB and SSN turned up in another state and when contacted denied that it was even him yet the picture of the guy was an exact match. Another with two cans, was killed in a car wreck and the family didn't know he had bought and applied for a stamp and only a dedicated search located the family. And that was only two years of working at the store!
