I doubt we will ever get to see the intelligence behind the report, and that is a shame. A decent summary is here:

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/01/18/republican-authorizes-classified-report-fbi-348024

And here is the NYT piece this morning:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/19/us/politics/republicans-surveillance-trump-russia-inquiry.html

With the assumption that the report will be released there is a lot of murmuring about what the effects will be. The two largest outcomes mentioned right now are the careers of certain folks at the FBI and DOJ, and the undermining of the media's case against Trump. On the first count, what so many on the left seem to be worried about is the tarnishing of the FBIs reputation. Scouring every news source I can I have not read a single word of consideration over what the FBI did or may have done.

This reminds me of my tenure serving on honor council in college where the daughter of some prominent people got caught cheating on an exam. The argument for leniency, and not leaving a mark on her permanent record, was an appeal to conscience based on harm to her reputation. They brought along a "family friend" who also happened to be an alum and well known attorney. He reminded us that we are a small community that needs to look out for each other, which I read as a veiled warning. That is to say that future judgment of her character by prospective employers should not be based on the record of her choices, but by the collective need to protect our own. I was hoping she was just own up because I believe that is the first step to redemption. She didn't, so I voted for the noose. As for the FBI and the left I am ever more alarmed that the left sees our nations preeminent law enforcement agency as one of their own. How did it come to be that the NYT and Slate became employed as public relations representatives for the FBI?

And as for the medias case it seems that the NYT regards itself as the guardian at the gate of all things leftist. With editorial deft it seeks to give guidance to the tantrum throwing and drunken CNN and offer direction to the ever pouting Anderson Cooper steering his tricycle dangerously close to the precipice of the open canals of sewerage that flow through CNN's offices. The NYT has taken every opportunity to whitewash and obfuscate when it suits them and to be as specific and fact based when that better suits their needs. The editorial board of the NYT does not consider and review one story at a time, but they review the entire publication as a cohesive ball of dung. How one story/article/byline/OpEd supports of contradicts or supports another is carefully measured and sent back to the tailor for further fitting as required. CNN and blogs such as the Huff Post then cite the NYT as they kick and rant through their day as they have done every moment of every single day since the election.

Paramount to the story line at hand is the Fusion GPS Trump dossier. Its credibility, origins, and prominence in obtaining the FISA warrant are center stage. Reading the above NYT piece steers me back to several other published pieces. One of them is the Op-Ed written by Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch, the gentlemen who put the dossier together.

Every single word of this piece is absolute tripe that is refuted and flushed almost without effort. The very basis of it, in their own words, is the question "Why did Mr Trump repeatedly seek to do deals in a notoriously corrupt police state that most serious investors shun?" To test the effectiveness of these words I tried it out on a few associates and it reliably elicited a frown, or a raised eyebrow, and even statements agreeing that it is at least suspicious behavior. I suggest whomever is reading this to try that question out without arguing with any answers and see what sort of responses you get. After quiet has settled in you might mention something you read in the below article titled "Big Western Companies Are Pumping Cash Into Russia", originally published by Bloomberg:

http://vestnikkavkaza.net/analysis/Big-Western-Companies-Are-Pumping-Cash-Into-Russia.html

Then look at a thousand other articles on foreign direct investment in Russia. Bring those up too. Point by point, it is all bullshit. Including the smoke and mirrors around who funded the research (Hillary's campaign).

I cannot wait for the memo.
