I've never been to Burning Man, but I had an interesting experience on that highway and the Tribal Rangers back in in September of 2000.
I was driving my old Jeep with my old dog and pulling a utility trailer on the way to the Surprise Valley to visit an old girlfriend. I had the road all to myself. Hadn't seen another vehicle in what seemed like forever, and when there was a siren behind me. It was a Tribal police cruiser. That didn't thrill me. (Getting pulled over never thrills me,
but tribal police? Bad juju.) I had no idea where he came from or what he wanted, but there was nothing to do but pull over. The cop walked up to the side of my Jeep, and the conversation went like this:
Cop - Hi
Me - Hello Officer
Cop - How are things going today?
Me - Oh...everything's fine. Just taking a little road trip.
Cop - Cool
Me - ?...Ah...Do you need my license and registration?
Cop - Nah... You're good.
Me - Okay...Can I ask...Why did you pull me over?
Cop - Look...Can we just talk for a while?
It's lonely AF out here! So we chatted for a while. I told him about the girl I was going to see. (He liked hearing about Brenda) Then he said goodbye and went back to where he was hiding. I got my ass out of there before he decided he was still lonely.
