Cold Weather - Mag Primers Needed?

Would appreciate some input from those who live in the cold weather areas.
I am heading to Saskatchewan in mid-November for deer hunting.

Should I use mag primers instead of large rifle for 308 and 7WSM?

I use Varget in the 308 and MagPro in the 7WSM.

Temps likely will be be below freezing, the question is just how far below freezing. The guide says 0F to -10F is possible.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Cold Weather - Mag Primers Needed?

Hey Jeff,

I can speak for your .308 as thats what I use up here in the winter for a lot of my coyote hunting. You'll be good to go with regular large rifle primers. I use either F210's or CCI BR2's. I've had no problems and have shot in sub -40F with it. I also use Varget in mine.

Cant speak for the 7 WSM though.

Good luck up there....bring home a giant!!

I live in South Dakota, the summers hit 100* and the winters hit -30*, I have never seen the need to swap primers for warm to cold loads. The thing that is going to help you is making time to re-zero your rifle when you get to Canada. The cold temp will surely change your POI, it's nothing changing a primer will eliminate.
