I don't need any more firearms in my collection, just need to refine what I do have with better optics and accessories. I have to sell toys to buy toys however. I have a 1937 S/42 Luger that was customized by Hugh Clark into the "Baby" Luger configuration with a 2" barrel and grip shortened 3/4" that should bring enough to finance some things. I have a Colt Lightweight Sporter (My first and likely only AR 15) that I would like to direct as a CQB Carbine (currently has an Aimpoint M2 in an ARMS Comp II mount and an SEI Vortex FH). I would like to install a CAR 15 style stock for a Nostalgic appearance. Saw some (5-6 in a vendor's glass case) on a table at a recent show that were plastic wrapped with a Colt decal that were priced at $250 ea.. Couldn't talk to the vendor as he was too busy talking to ALL his groupies to TCB. Don't think I want to spend $250 on something that may or may NOT be actually made by Colt, but I do like that style. Can anyone please give some guidance regarding their experiences with similar stocks and the proper tubes (Mil Spec), springs, buffers etc... that are also needed . Would really like something that is solid with no "wiggle" when extended if possible. As an after-thought, I also have a Ruger .44Mag Deerstalker Carbine (looks like a fat 10/22), has anyone ever heard of someone making a M1913 style receiver mount for this ? Thanks !! Joe

Aside from a CAR/M4 style stock I have used:
Magpul CTR
Magpul ACS
Magpul UBR

None of the Magpul stocks had any wiggle.

Re: Collapsible Stock For AR ???

After doing some research yesterday, the CTR is the most attractive from an efficiency (and price-point) standpoint (if not the esthetic aspect). My NEW dilema is Mil-Spec vs Commercial style extension tube. My Colt has the A2 style stock, so I have latitude in a choice. The Magpul website is very vague as to differences (they must assume everyone is an expert). I visited a website (I think it was Botac) that had a great comparison chart of the differences between the two tube styles. Why is the Comm version slanted at the rear? The tubes appear to be different lengths? Which would an experienced "Hands-on" rigger choose and why? Thanks again !! Joe

google "mil spec versus commercial buffer" and read for hours on the subject.

$250 for a CAR buttstock? Nostalgia? I got a CAR buttstock I'll sell you for 1/3 of that if that is what you are into.

Re: Collapsible Stock For AR ???

functionally there is no difference. There is no reason for an Operator to choose one over the other.

Go milspec for the fact that it's what most people have, and if you ever want to sell or trade your stock, and or rifle it will be much easier. I would base this decision based solely on resale. Otherwise again... it dosn't matter. The dimensions are different. thats all.

Re: Collapsible Stock For AR ???

Milspec receiver extension is the only appropriate way to go.

As for stocks, the best overall stocks are both Magpul and VLTOR.

The CTR is a good stock, but the VLTOR IMOD has nice options for modularity for about the same price point.
Similarly, the Magpul ACS has great options and is a hell of a lot cheaper than a LMT SOPMOD, but it's the same price point as the VLTOR EMOD.

Personally, I like the CTR over the IMOD, but the EMOD over the ACS.
