I know a lot of people love collecting guns, most they rarely use.. I do the same, sometime.

But with recent years and the events that have unfolded.. I find myself questioning some of my weapons. I've got a few rifles, mainly m1a's that I think about selling to help fund another AR, mags, ammo, plate carrier, etc etc...

Getting rid of the things that just sit in the safe and look pretty for gear that will/could come in handy with the way the world is heading.

Anyone else selling off any safe queens to get more practical gear/training?

No. The opposite. When everyone is buying tactical stuff, it’s the time to buy vintage fine hunting and collectible arms.

Last summer bought a beautiful Ansley H. Fox double at a gun shop. $600. They sell for $2k all day in that grade. It was the only gun in the shop with a wood stock. Someone traded it on an AR. Superb Fox gun for a pittance.

Now is the time to hang on to good guns. Buy more, in fact, if that’s your thing. Sell off your junk AR’s and similar. And then buy AR’s after Xiden implodes, we get an economy back and people are feeling rich enough to buy fine shotguns and Winchester’s.

Herd mentality is for poors! ;-)

Buy the opposite of what the masses are buying. Sell the masses what they want at inflated prices!

You make a point. That was why I got my m1a's to begin with. 1 guy bought a tavor and wanted money back, so I got my tanker as a super good deal... The m1a national match, was given to a guy, from his father... he didnt like wood guns, so I got it, a leupold scope, and 800 rounds of 308 for 1600....

Ugh, Ill just suck it up and buy a plate carrier and keep the oldies.

Me. Sold all the extra firearms in the 2020 panic and I'm buying better glass and stuff. Using the huge profits of selling off unused firearms and buying additional mags and upgrading sights on my carry guns and daily shooters.

Used guns are still bringing record prices at the LGS on consignment.

My safe is full of gold…even if gold becomes worthless.
Actually, silver is down low. Which makes no sense right now. But silver coins and small (10 Oz) bars are currency-level assets if things really go south with inflation, currency-free economies, bank acccounts wiped out. If we have to go to any level of barter or black market economy, silver is going to be an ideal medium. Gold is a good store of wealth, but at 1800+ an ounce, hard to trade it for grocery’s. A one ounce silver coin to a farmer is like a $20 bill.

That’s what I am buying right now.

I hear we’ll own nothing and be a lot more happy.
Those with the skills to thrive will own everything and definitely be a lot more happy. Worthless socialists with blue hair and trigger complexes won’t be happy at all. They will be servants slave labor cannon fodder and food.

Are they investments, collection pieces or tools?

I sold off a bunch of stuff and bought Dillon 750, case feeder, bullet feeder and enough components and spares to shoot volume for years. No regrets. I don't miss any of the firearms I sold and I'm a waaay better shot now.

    To each his own.

Take a look carefully at what you enjoy having for your collection and what may appreciate in value and what may be out of production or harder to get anymore.

Realistically if you have one good AR for each member of your household and 1 spare, you are kind of stocked up for all you can NEED, then the rest is what you want to collect.

The same with ammunition, NEED is actually a lot smaller than folks might think, then the rest is want and fun and games and investment stuff.

How many mags can you actually ever use? for most AR mags you can cheaply buy more than you would ever possibly wear out or lose.

Once you have the basics covered then just enjoy collecting what you like to collect.

I may be terribly wrong, BUT, I think many folks stocking up tons of ARs, mags, tactical gear and stuff for the "bad times ahead", might find themselves a bit disappointed to find out that the actual opportunities to play tactical door kicker are mostly non-existent, and folks running around dressed all super tactical may not last as long as hoped.

Every firearm I've purchased serves a purpose - either carry or competition, with two exceptions, an AR and a 1911.

I don't own or see any use for a safe.

I keep toying with selling a few of my Mil Surplus rifles, mostly because I not only haven't shot many of them in well over a decade, I don't know that I've even touched them. Nor do I think my eyes are good enough to shoot them if I wanted to. The reasons I don't, well... they don't eat much. They're not costing me money. I also have a couple modern long guns that I promised myself I'd sell while buying others that did their job better. One rifle has been out of the safe, leaning against a wall waiting to take some pictures for about 7 months now. No, the real reason I don't sell them is I'm just too lazy. Don't want to interact with locals, nor do the extra hoop jumping required by law here now. And I don't want to deal with boxing them up and high shipping prices selling them online. Sad.

Of course I haven't stopped buying them. In 2021 I realized for the first time in 34 years, I hadn't bought a gun all year. (not for lack of trying) Making up for it in 2022, averaging one a month thus far and it has nothing to do with politics or anything else.. mostly. Inflation and rising prices did push me to act on one of them I've been toying with for years. "It's not going to get any cheaper."

We did a mock airfield seizure at Knox Army Airfield one year, was thinking about slipping into the gold vault area by accident. Not sure it would have ended well for me. Surreal looking down and seeing that place under you.

i used to hang on to rifles i didnt use much

then a few years ago i started purging the safe

if its not "as" accurate as my newer stuff...gone

if it isnt a special build like a tacops....gone
