Sidearms & Scatterguns Colt Delta Elite, Plain Jane - Deal?

AZ, NV, NM, UT, OR, WA ... freedom beckons.

Our hearts are in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, or eastern Washington. If we could figure out how to set up my wife's business in one of those places we would probably go for it. But we want to live in the country, but wife's business requires a larger, well heeled, population. If we were younger I'm sure we would just start over. Hopefully the state legislature and guv moonbeam or his jerk-off successor will make the taxes here so onerous we would be out nothing if we left. So far it looks like they will. They now want a $400 billion single-payer healthcare system so I'm sure they're working on it. Then the decision would be easy. We already pay $17,000 a year for crap coverage and something like a $4,000 or $8,000 deductible (can't remember as it keeps changing). Who can afford that crap? I imagine there are people here who pay less for their mortgage. Obviously it is designed to have us subsidize other people who rather buy cell phones, internet, cable, and cars, than health insurance. And freaking so-called Republicans have no more interest in changing things to a free market than the commu...Democrats. If we're too stupid to make our own health care choices, and a free market in health insurance is so terrible, why not state controlled car insurance markets? Other essentials like food? Housing? Everything! Am I ranting again? Sigh... Gold star to anyone who reads https://www.amazon.com/Basic-Econom...459507&sr=8-1&keywords=sowell+basic+economics to get an idea why government pricing controls always fail. Always.

The Delta Elite's were reinforced... not exactly a standard 1911. Series 80 derivative.

In the late 1980's, 1-SFOD-D (yeah, I know, I know, Delta doesn't exist) was looking at getting a more powerful handgun. But they had a tradition since their formation of issuing 1911's to all their troopers. Probably because in the early days (before the MP5's) they were using M3 Grease guns for entry and tubular assaults. Beckwith got a boatload of them for free... and so the .45 became their go-to caliber, except for their long rifles. Starting pretty early in the unit's history, their 1911's were very customized... by the time they were well-established in the late '80s, every operator got his own pair of 1911's built to spec. The 10mm, though, was getting a lot of attention in the late '80s and early '90s. So Colt tried to create a gun in 10mm to meet their desires for a more powerful gun.

Was never adopted officially by any military unit to my knowledge. But they got a bunch of attention and got thoroughly tested out by people who don't exist and well-received. But the .45 was just too well-entrenched. I think that the Border Patrol approved them for carry but never issued them. And Colt got lots of he-man points by using a Delta-like logo on the grips and playing on bad Chuck Norris movies and rumors of awesomeness.

I'd love one of the Blue ones. They were really beautifully made. Guess I have to start looking seriously... since this now has my owner-lust fired up.

Cheers,

Sirhr

There's a difference?

Only when we explain our actions to the Keeper of the Exchequer, and then we rely heavily upon one another to bear up under her frustration and employment of "Jump off the Brooklyn Bridge" logical attempts to paint our acquisitions in a bad light. That is to say, we lay it off on each other's broad shoulders with a pleading "But he has one and it's really, really cool!"

Veer, I feel you. Asking the banker to release the funds is never easy. "But he has one and it's really cool" is a gambit we all learn when we're young. And in times of crisis we revert to our training. Sometimes I see things on Gunbroker with an auction ending soon. And I'll approach the banker calmly. Determined not to blurt out a plaintive "but the guys on the Hide all have one!" And she'll offer to hold the football and tell me she'll think about it. But as I run up to kick it she yanks the football away and says "ask me again in a month or two." Leaving me sounding just like Cartman in South Park crying "but I neeeeed it for tomorrow!"

Years ago a new neighbour, who turned into a friend, teased me about checking with the banker and claimed he didn't need to do that in his marriage. Ten years later he picks up the phone to check with his wife before buying something at a gun show. I said "what about all that macho talk years ago?" "Oh that?" He says. "I lied. I was just trying to impress you."

The other day a good buddy, business owner, and father of four, bought some expensive electronics to replace some he bought not too long ago at some great expense. He bought the wrong thing and regretted it. This sort of thing flips my wife out so I go out of my way to get it right the first time. Not always successfully. So I ask what his wife thought about throwing away quite a bit of money like that. "She doesn't think anything of it." He answered. "She's not upset?" I asked incredulously. "She doesn't even know about it." He said. Now he's got me going. I know he's got four kids and is a solid family man. And I ask "don't you have to get permission to spend that kind of money?" And he says "nope." Well now I'm thinking I'm the biggest pussy in the world. I thought the word for guys who did shit like that was "divorced." But his marriage is solid. My head is spinning as I wonder if I've been thinking and behaving like a child all these years. When finally, after several minutes, he says "I have an allowance; if I'm using money from my allowance I don't have to get permission." And just like that l felt better.

Anyhow, I have two Dan Wessons. And while they're not the insane values they were a few years back. I still think they're a lot of gun for the money and great guns. Buy with confidence!

I bought my blued DE in, i want to say '92. It was originally 650 and i got it for 470 as Sports Unlimited had allowed it to get some rust on the frame. The barrels don't have fully supported chambers. Expect some weird looking brass to come out. I put a Bar-Sto barrel in it to solve that. With a stout load of blue dot pushing gold dots, it's something.

Yeah, that and the need to provision an ambi safety are holding me up. Other options are somewhat more intriguing.
