After looking and looking for a compact and stable tripod that is backpack friendly and under 2 pounds I think I found it. Over the years I have learned how true ounces = pounds and pounds = pain is. Everything is a compromise of sorts and this was no different. I have a large Manfrotto tripod and its great but not practical for field use. I tried a compact slik and while nice and small it didn't fill the role I was looking for. The "role" is field spotting and expedient rest. When field shooting and hunting prone with a bipod doesn't always work and you need to get above that tall grass and ground clutter. I looked at a lot of brands ... Oben, Manfrotto, Mefoto, Slik, to name a few. I finally settled on the following and thus far have been happy with its performance. I'm using a micro manfrotto ball head on it to keep weight down. 2 lbs and a foot long - ill take it. Its a spendy little tripod but buy once cry once.
