They're shooting golf balls at 1000yrds with these rifles!

Who can argue with that?

Re: Competitive Edge Gunworks Floating Action

The problem for me is:

It is just Larry Crow making these claims.

I have not found anything from someone that does not have a financial interest giving an unbiased and independant review.

I just want to do my due dilligence before plopping down the bones on one.

I am interested in the action for a custom build, not the rifles featured on his website FWIW.

Re: Competitive Edge Gunworks Floating Action

At $1450.00 for a short action he can keep that. The machining behind the lug looks like crap. For that kind of money you would think you could clean up those tooling marks!

His chassis system looks like a torture device.....
I will stick with Surgeon, Templar, Badger M2008!

Re: Competitive Edge Gunworks Floating Action

I would be interested to hear some independent review.

You can RTZ with much less expensive actions if you know what you are doing. I can pull my 700 action from the B&C stock and have it return to zero perfectly as long as I torque it correctly and make sure the witness marks line up.

In fairness, as I have nothing to gain:

I believe what you see in the picture is the heat treat temper marks. You will see it near the bolt knob knotch pretty clearly as well. I don't believe it is tooling marks, and until I hold one and can inspect it in person I personally would refrain from saying a disparaging comment about someone's product. Especially in the age where rumors and hyperboyle can run at the speed of light.

The thought that the owner would allow for a flawed example of his work to be posted on his website runs contrary to the most rudimentary common sense. One would expect that only the best example of ones work would be used in their advertising. So again, I seriously doubt that those are tooling marks.

As for price have you checked the price for any of the actions that you had listed? The listed price for Surgeon 591 actions at Brownells is: $1,461 so to me his prices are inline as an alternative.

This thread was intended to solicite the actual first hand ownershp/shooting impressions of the product and get a bead on the company's customer service.

Spreading misinformation, guesses, or arm chair speculation brings nothing to the table when hard facts are sought.

The chassis that he has pictured are made by two different vendors:

http://www.dlsports.com/

and

John Plaster Stocks

He also features this one quite a bit as well

Re: Competitive Edge Gunworks Floating Action

How much different is this from using a bedding block system. They have been around for sometime now in Benchrest. The Action is Free Floated on them also I believe. I don't see the "Miraculous" about it.

Re: Competitive Edge Gunworks Floating Action

I can't comment on these actions but from personal experience I can tell you that floating actions and securing the barreled action to a stock via a barrel block works extremely well in terms of accuracy. many 1000 yd benchrest shooters who use very heavy bbls use a bbl block. I'm not sure that it would be ideal in a tactical rifle though where dirt can get under the action and into the trigger area.
