I have been reloading .308 for myself some time now and all is well with my press and load. My 16 year old son is going to Nationals at Camp Perry for service rifle, so good old dad figures only the best for him. Lapua brass and bullets, I FL all my new .308 brass, run some of his .223 through the die, seat the bullet and the bullet wobbles BAD on the roll test. So I take a new piece of brass un-sized, just chamfer the neck by hand seat a bullet, perfect?

RCBS comp die set.

Out of the two, neck tension or straight bullet in the neck, I am going with straight bullet for now. Any ideas?

Re: Concentricity problem

RCBS comp die set is not that great when it comes to Precision. I bought one when I first started reloading for my 308 and have since replaced it with Redding type S FL Sizing die with bushing for and Competition Seater. It produces a MUCH better result.

Re: Concentricity problem

I posted on a similar issue a few days ago but here are my two cents:

If you don't have a Lee Collet Neck Sizing die I suggest you get one. They are cheap and work marvelously. I size all my brass with this die even after a full legnth sizing. I seat my bullets with a Redding Comp seater and I check all my loaded rounds for concentricity. The most I have ever seen is .002 and 80% or so are .001 or less runout.

I am using Lapua Brass and Scenars, SMKs, and T-TSX's

Re: Concentricity problem

Grab a lee collet die and just run the new brass thru that,
shouldn't alter any concentricity of the new brass, and should help with evening out the neck tension.

A quick cheap fix if your short on time?
