We will also have a random draw, two-man team event for those who wish to participate for $5.00 (90% payback with 10% going to CVRPC).

A “bonus” type side match shooting steel targets at various ranges from 112 to 240 yards may be offered at the Match Director’s discretion, and time permitting. (90% payback with 10% going to CVRPC)

COURSE:
All shooting will be from a paved, covered firing line with multiple positions available. Course will consist of 4 stages at distances as follows:
• Stage 1: 57 yards.
• Stage 2: 112 yards.
• Stage 3: 163 yards.
• Stage 4: 210 yards.
• Targets are IPSC “style” AR235 steel in sizes ranging from approx. 1.5” to approx. 8.5” in height.
• All targets (including sighter targets) are reactive steel with no paper targets being offered.
• A sighter target will be available at each Stage. Sighter targets are steel, round discs, white in color.
• The course of fire will consist of various size targets and will also include “hostage” style scenarios, partially blocked or hidden targets, diminishing size precision reactive targets, and other possible scenarios at the Match Directors discretion.
• Targets will be engaged from the following positions:
Modified Prone: Prone position at 90* from target. Fired from shooting mat.
Prone: Prone position from shooting mat.
Defilade: Simulated defilade fired from tabletop with limited field of view.
Barricade /cover: Simulated rooftop type cover position.
Improvised rest prone: Prone position from improvised rest.
Stairwell: Improvised stairstep "wall" with multiple height positions which may be shot prone, sitting, kneeling, or standing.
Standing: Standing position with or without use of sling.
Additional positions at Match Directors discretion.

NOTE: No rear rest, bag, appendages, or mechanical support of any kind allowed on any position. Additionally, bipods must be adjusted so the stock does not contact the ground when firing from prone positions or the tabletop from the defilade position. The shooter may place their hand, wrist, fist, etc. between the stock and ground. If a competitor is found in violation, the competitor will be issued a warning with the shooter’s score for that stage entered as zero “0”, and in the event of a second offense the competitor will be disqualified.

• Course of fire will consist of 48 rounds, 8 of which are sighters.
You will encounter 12 targets total at each stage consisting of the following: Six, free-standing targets worth 1 point each; 4 aggressor/hostage style targets worth 2 points each - but with a minus one point (-1 ) hostage kill penalty; and two very challenging "option" targets worth 3 points each - but also with a -1 point hostage kill penalty. So that’s 12 available targets with varying difficulty, and with varying risk vs. reward. 10 shots, 12 targets, you decide.
Please note that ANY of the positions described above may be encountered on ANY of the four Stages. Shooting positions will either be drawn on the morning of match day, or prescribed at the Match Director’s discretion dependant on conditions.

NOTE: Course and targets may vary slightly at match director's discretion.

EQUIPMENT:
• Match is open to all .22 rimfire rifles including bolt action, semi auto, single shot, lever, and pump actions. No weight limit.
• .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle only. No 22 WMR, 17M2, or 17HMR rifles allowed.
• No “adjustable” muzzle devices or “tuners” are allowed.
• Non-adjustable muzzle brakes and “bloop tubes” not exceeding an overall length of 3” are permitted.
• The use of suppressors is permitted.
• No mechanical front rests – bipod only. NOTE: Only “tactical” style bipods allowed. No F-Class or “wide footprint” models allowed.
• No rear bags, monopods, or rear rest of any kind allowed.
• No rear stock appendages, protrusions, or otherwise fixed, adjustable, or folding devices that would serve as support.
• The use of a sling is permitted.
• Shooting mats, elbow pads, etc. are allowed.
• No “High Power type” shooting coats or jackets allowed.
• The same gun MUST be fired throughout the course unless a verified mechanical or optical failure occurs which must be approved by the Match Director.

MATCH COMMANDS:
• At the command: “Shooters to the Line…Your 30 second prep period begins, NOW” competitors will have a 30 second prep period to get into position, adjust scope settings, etc. The firearm must remain unloaded during the prep period.
• At the end of the prep period the competitor will receive a “Load” command at which time he/she will have 30 seconds to load his weapon.
• At this “Load” command, shooters with magazine fed rifles will load a magazine with 2 (two) rounds only. Shooters may also choose to engage sighter targets single fed.
• At the end of the 30 second “Load” period, the shooter will receive the “Fire” command and have 30 seconds to fire on 2 sighter targets only.
• The sighter targets must be engaged first.
• At the end of 30 seconds a “Cease Fire” command will be given. Bolts/actions are to be open at this time.
• After the two rounds are fired on the sighter target and the “Cease Fire” command given, a magazine change is required. The competitor may then load a magazine loaded with 5 or 10 rounds. The time period for the magazine change is 15 seconds.
• Tubular magazine fed rifles must load two rounds only, or engage sighter targets single fed; then load 10 rounds at Magazine Change command.
• At the end of the 15 second magazine change period the “Fire” command will be given at which time the competitor will fire 10 rounds for score during a 4 minute period.

NOTE: If a competitor does not fire the allocated two rounds on the sighter target for any reason, the competitor still has a maximum of ten shots for score. If a competitor fires more than 10 rounds for score, the score for that stage shall be zero “0”. If a second offense occurs the competitor will be disqualified.

• The competitor may choose to engage any target on the stage in any order. Competitor review of the scoring below and various strategies dependant on the presented targets at each stage are advised.
• If a competitor fires at a target for score prior to receiving the FIRE command, it shall be called as an “early shot” and any point scored shall be marked as a zero “0”.
• At the end of the 4 minute period a “Cease Fire” command will be given at which time the competitor must display a clear and open action, insert an “open chamber indicator” or flag, and acknowledge clear by a show of hands.
• Shooters must hold their position while target setters are downrange with no handling of the firearm permitted. Upon the command at the return of target setters shooters may advance to their next position, place their firearm at their designated shooting position, without further handling or adjustment.

NOTE: To help ensure the target setter’s safety and aid in enforcement of this rule, any competitor called for handling their firearm while persons are downrange will be disqualified and the competitor asked to remove their equipment from the line. No exceptions. Safety will NOT be compromised.

SCORING:
• Targets MUST fall to be scored as a HIT.
• Turned targets still standing will be counted as a miss or “0”.
• Each missed target will be scored as “0” point.
• Each “single man” or "free-standing" man hit will be scored as 1 point.
• Hostage target hit (knocked over) will be scored as minus 1 (-1) point.
• Hostage target aggressor “kills” will be scored as 2 points.
• “Option” target aggressor kills will be scored as 3 points.
• “Option” target hostage kills are scored as minus 1 (-1) point.
• If the Aggressor target AND the Hostage target falls it is scored as minus 1 (-1).
• If a Hostage target is turned and does not fall it does not count against the competitor.
• All competitors must have their scorecard verified and initialed before advancing to the next position. Blank or mismarked targets will be scored as “0”. Line Officers will be available for assistance in scoring or match procedures.
• Competitors will turn in their scorecard to the Match Director or Line Officer at the completion of Relay #4.
• All scorecards must be completed with the competitor’s name and contact information prior to turning it in for scoring. Scorecards with no name or identifying information will be rejected.
• In the event of a “tie” for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, a “Tiebreaker Stage” will be added and will be at the Match Directors discretion. Expect targets from 57 to 210 yards.

ALIBI SHOTS:
• No alibi shots will be given for failure to fire due to equipment or ammunition malfunction.
• No alibi shots will be given for failure to fire during the allotted time.
• Alibi shots will be permitted only when the respective targets are unavailable due to crossfire or mechanical target failure in the competitor’s bank and the competitor has not fired all 10 allowed shots.
• The competitor must notify a Range Officer or the Match Director immediately if he/she has missing targets due to crossfire or mechanical target failure.
• It is the sole responsibility of the competitor to notify the Range Officer of the alibi situation.
• It is the sole responsibility of the competitor to decide to engage further targets or suspend fire and engage the targets in an alibi period.
• At the Match Director’s command, the alibi shooter will engage targets with the standard range commands and the competitor shall be given 24 seconds per alibi shot.

SAFETY:
• CVRPC requires the use of open chamber indicators/flags at all times except after the load command has been given.
• ALL bolts and actions must remain open at all times except when “on stage” after the Load command is given.
• Failure to display open actions and Open Chamber Indicator will result in 1 warning, followed by disqualification.
• Eye and hearing protection must be worn by competitors, spotters, and bystanders.
• No horseplay or unsafe gun handling will be tolerated.

CVRPC .22 TSC Match Recap, March 9, 2013

The 2013 CVRPC .22 Tactical Steel Challenge season started out with a great match with a total of 28 competitors. The skies were blue throughout the day with light winds and temps in the mid to upper 50’s.

We have added a few new positions that really put’s the Indian, and not the arrow, into the equation. The “Stairwell” and the “Railroad” forces the shooter to make the best shot possible from a less than perfectly stable position. It also forces the competitor to consider his/her strategy. These new positions really level the playing field and makes all guns on the line competitive. We will continue to add new stages throughout the year so expect the unexpected! Again, if you are looking for F Class or benchrest this is not for you. Come with the expectation of a fun yet challenging course of fire.

Congrats this month to Matt Leonard. Matt guided his Savage MKII to a very respective score of 46 on a very challenging course. This also marked the first win in TSC competition for a Savage. Great shooting Matt and a well deserved win. Curtis England came in 2nd with a score of 44, and Joe Lassiter brought home 3rd place with a 42. Jay Roe captured 1st place of the Jr. shooters.

We strongly encourage our Junior shooters at CVRPC, and we urge parents to get their youngsters involved in the shooting sports. We are stepping up our Junior trophy program again this year. We have set up a “Top Shooter” program for the Juniors and will reward the top three Juniors in October with very nice trophies for the highest aggregate score from their best 4 of 8 matches. We have set up a Junior donation box to help fund this program. We will again have a "Shooter of the Year" competition with fantastic trophies for the highest overall aggregate for the best 5 of 8 matches this year.

The match ran smoothly with no lengthy delays, infractions, or safety concerns. Thank you shooters for making this MD’s job easier. Special thanks to all that assist in set up and tear down for making this thing happen. Thanks to those who stepped in and helped as line officers throughout the day. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve Roe

Great match as always with some tricky wind conditions for the later relays. An outstanding round of 59 by G. Johnson early on gave everybody notice how high the bar was set for the day. Nobody else was even able to break the 50 barrier.

Here are videos from Stage 3 & 4 for shooter Ron B ans spotter Joe L. Solid shooting by Ronnie and excellent wind calling by Joe yielded scores of 14 and 7 respectively Stepping out those last 50yds to 212yds every little bit of wind has a HUGE impact. Ronnie just barely missed a few targets and the wind just never quite settled enough to go full tilt at the aggressor or bonus targets.

Little bit of cross chatter from Stage 4, but you can still pick out Joe's wind calling.

Just the dulcet tones of Joe's wind calls with minimal chatter.

"Awesome Pics ArmorP8chikn!!"

Me be Apache308. We do not let Joe around expensive cameras.

Not to jack this thread but I had a question. How could I get something started like this in my area? Have a 100yd range, I have access to a place where we could shoot out to 400yds but it may be to far for some people to drive. How do I get interest in a rimfire match? I have one or two people that are interested at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Seeing this match makes me wish I lived in NC!

Bump for this weeks match, and I'm bringing along Branson1369 to partake in the festivities. See you about 9:45am Saturday we're both in for the side match.

.22 Tactical Steel Challenge Conover, NC May 11, 2013

The May 11 TSC match was held under the threat of windy conditions and afternoon thunderstorms that never came. In fact, the conditions were darn near perfect for shooting.22’s with temps in the 70’s and little to no wind. The scores reflected the conditions. Our attendance was a bit down from usual but even with the gloomy forecast, Mother’s Day weekend, and other commitments we still had a respectable turnout.

Today’s match was ruled by the old timers……not representative of the shooter, but of the rifles. R. Brown drove the ‘ol Martini to a very nice score of 55 for the win and T. McCloskey shot his super accurate Winchester 52 to 2nd place with a score of 52. This vintage 52 is an incredible shooter as proven when we moved back to the 300 yard line after the match. TM made 300yd hits with boring regularity. C England came in 3rd with another score in the “50’s” with a 51. I have to mention one of the most impressive runs of the day shot by J. Sigmon. Mr. Sigmon shot his Ruger 10/22 to a very impressive score of 50 which is, to my recollection, the first 50 shot by a factory Ruger. Great shooting.

As always a special thanks goes out to all those that come out early and stay late to set up and tear down. This match mechanically speaking has a lot of parts and pieces and requires a team effort to make it happen.

See ya next month!

Steve Roe

Team Event: C. England x2 tie T. Mccloskey J. Sigmon 102

As always this match delivers!! Apache is busy doing his Father of the Bride impression this week and Armorpl8chikn wasn't able to attend the match so I will do my best to add some color commentary about the match and after match activities.

Shooting positions for this match were:

Stage 1 = dog house
Stage 2 = wailing wall
Stage 3 = RR tie prone
Stage 4 = table with portal

As Apache mentioned the shooting conditions were near ideal for the entire match. Either dead calm to just a slight 1-2mph breeze all day. D. Lail jumped out to an early lead posting a solid 49 shooting on relay #1. B Franklin and D Leonard gave chase on relays #2 & #5 posting a very respectable 41 and 42. Shooting on relay #6 R. Brown fired an impressive opening salvo by cleaning stage 1 (18 which made spotting and scoring REAL easy for me), but he fell victim to the awkward position of the wailing wall, walking away with just a 9. He recovered nicely though on Stages 3 and 4 shooting a combined 28 to post an impressive total of 55 and take the lead.

I started on relay #7 opening with a solid 13, but just missing the second bonus by a hair on my 10th shot. On Stage 2 I embraced my inner contortionist (and possibly bruised my spleen) to build a solid position that yielded going 10 for 10 and posting 15. Stage 3 found me playing it safe by taking out the 6 free standers first. I'd progressed to the hostages by shot 8 and had two down with one shot left. I pressed my luck trying to catch R. Brown, by going for a bonus, and just barely clipped the top edge of the gate to earn a -1 instead of a +3 (those 4 point swings hurt!). Entering Stage 4 the task was clear, I needed to shoot the stage clean (18) to tie R. Brown at 55. I came up 3 points short due to misses on shots 4, 8, & 9, but still posted a solid 15 for a total of 52.

C. England started on relay#9 and although I couldn't observe his first three relays coming to stage 4 he had a solid chance to best me and tie R.brown if he cleaned the stage. Alas he came up a touch short, but still posted a solid 14 on the stage IIRC and 51 overall. He also took the lead in the team event away from R.Brown and J Sigmond Jr (96) with his 102.

J Sigmond Sr was the final shooter of the match on Relay#10 and sat at 34 through the first 3 stages. He had a lot to think about preparing for stage 4. If he shot 18 or 17 he could tie my 52 or C.Englands 51, but win second or third outright by besting our stage 4 scores. He was also partnered with me in the team event and we needed him to post a 17 or higher to beat C.Englands 102. Joe shot an impressive score of 16; which tied our team score with C Englands 102, but unfortunately was just shy of him capturing 2nd and 3rd. I believe J stated that 16 was his personal best Stage 4 score and that 50 was his all time personal best at CTSC! Great shooting Joe! Most importantly he was able to maintain bragging rights over J Sigmund Jr (for now) who posted a solid 41 and has been improving steadily.

The after match shenanigans consisted of 10 shots for record with no sighters from the bench at the 300yard line. We utilized the stage 4 targets and traditional scoring system. Nine shooters in five relays stepped to the line to test themselves and their equipment. S.Roe shot B. Johnson's Anz64 to open with an impressive 6 on relay#1. R. Brown, B, Franklin and C. England posted 5's and a 6 respectively, but B.Johnson took the lead with a 7 on relay 4.

I had drawn last straw and came to the line knowing the number to beat was 7. I have never shot my Win 52 beyond 225yds and was pleasantly surprised to find that I actually could dial in the 42MOA from a 50 yd zero to get there. I'm a touch fuzzy on the exact order of how the shots scored except for the first shot and shots 8, 9, & 10. I opened with a first round hit on a free stander (shocked the hell out of me!), followed by several misses due to a slight wind shift. I connected with another free stander on shot 6 or 7 for a score of 2. With only 3 shots left it was time to go for broke. I connected with two aggressor targets on shots 8 and 9 to jump up to six points with one shot remaining. I do recollect Apache telling me my score and that I need 1 to tie and 2 to win as I'm sighting up my last shot. I may have said something about not coming here to tie just before pulling the trigger, and knocking over a third aggressor target to post a score of 8. Sorry, RedDog you get to be a bridesmaid again! ;) Afterwards I let Apache and RedDog shoot my Win52. RedDog fed it some nice Lapua CenterX and showed me what the rifle is truly capable of by easily knocking off the reaming aggressor targets then shooting the three hostage targets (6"h x 3"w) going 3 for 3. I need to invest in some Center X! :)

Looking forward to next month, and hope to see those that couldn't make this month's match!

WOW! Great write up Tom! Makes me almost feel like I was there.

My sister came from Houston to visit and we both spent the weekend with Mama. None of us are getting any younger and losing our other sister last May we try and take advantage of the time we have. I did fiddle with the idea of running off Saturday morning but just couldn't make myself do it. I hate that I missed the match but I would hate it more if this visit was the last I would see my sister...a sobering thought, and one that is all too recent in my mind.

If nothing happens I will be there next month. I hate I didn't get in on the side match, I am sure it was more fun than the match. I love the pressure of the race! Glad to hear One of the Sigmons had a great day. I know it sounds kinda cliche but I root for them every match. They have stuck with their equipment and have really worked on sharpening their skill and it shows!

Here's looking forward to next month and hopefully some more 300yd shenanigans...fun cheeky shenanigans :)

Bump for this weekends match. Very early this month with the 1st falling on a Saturday. Along with myself I should be bringing Branson1369. I have also talked Botbasher and Botbasher Jr into attending in preperation for their first foray into competition at the DMM match on the 22nd. Hope the weather is decent and look forward to seeing many of the usual suspects.

Hey Dave.....Really glad to hear you and Tom are coming up. I just got in from range prep. The rains held off and we got the mowing and set up complete. We've got a good set of stages set up and a new twist on Stage 1. Looking forward to a competitive match tomorrow. SR

Here I sit at work at 0130. After telling the guy on this end of the week NOT to take vacation on the 6,7,and 8th, what did he do? had his pick of 6 other weekends that would not piss me off....go figure. If nothing happens you will see me in a few hours. If I am asleep in the car just put my name in and I will pony up when I wake up. Rouse me out of the car if I ain't on the line before my relay. Someone bring a cattle prod so I don't fall asleep in the middle of my relay.

on the road... eating.... watching the rain.... waiting for the fun to start!

see you guys in a few!

Ken and Jordan!

Steve a great match, great people and humbling. I am just glad I stayed to go to 300 yds to semi redeem myself. This is for sure not ytiour typical 22 match and absolutely a tactical precision event. I especailly like the mover for extra points that Joe snagged

Look forward to seeing you at Woodys on 6.22.13 and next monthat your match again. I forsee some practice in my future

How much fun can a man and a 22 have?? Come to a 22LR Tactical Competition and find out! It'll be a week before the smile wears off!

If you have ever been on the fence about attending one of these events, I cannot encourage you strongly enough to come and play with the small bores... Especially at the CVRPC .22 TSC Match!!! You could not ask for a nicer location and nicer folks to come learn the ropes with! Heck.. a few visits with them and I might actually have a chance! OK.. maybe I'm dreaming about the chance at winning, but the rest is completely true!!

The event was a well oiled machine and very easy to fall into step and figure out the process. Tom, bunsen27, whom I cannot thank enough for the advice, assistance and ULTIMATE patience with Jordan and myself (he spotted back to back and then shot 1,2,3!!! THANKS TOM!!!) guided us both through the stages and spotted for us with great corrections! Thanks to the help both of us managed to place in the mid-low of the pack which was much better than I figured we'd accomplish for our 1st attempt. Jordan pulled out a 28/72 (I understand that 60 is the record) which could not have pleased me more!

This type of event was exactly what I got into shooting for and I am glad I have connected with a great group of shooters that do what I've always thought shooting should be about!! I like other kinds of shooting too, but this is what I got into the sport for! It almost makes me wish I hadn't bought that last M1 or I'd probably be hunting for a nice Anschutz 64 right NOW!! Almost.

Thanks to CVRPC, Steve abd the .22LR TSC and to especially to Tom for the warm welcome and generous assistance. Both of us had a great time and are already planning to attend next months event!

Cheers!

Ken and Jordan

Thanks to Tom for promoting our match down East. It was great to meet Botbasher Sr and Jr, you guys are welcome any time as far as I am concerned. Was a pleasure to meet Branson and shoot with him. He is a solid dude, and I can't wait to get time to attend one of his matches. Enjoyed shooting with you Branson. If you get a chance come over for my TGAC match on the 6th of July.
I apologize if I was a bit out of it today, sleep depravation is an ugly thing. All in all one of the best days at TSC ever.

By the way, did you guys see my yote pic?

Here are a few pics from yesterday. Agreed, one of the best matches to date. Good weather, good shooting, and most of all good folks. Congrats to Tom on the win! It was great to meet Branson, Ken, and Jordan. Thanks guys for coming up and supporting the match. Full match report later today. SR

.22 Tactical Steel Challenge
Conover, NC
June 8, 2013 Match Recap

It’s the people that make this match………not the stages, not the course of fire, not the rush of competition, not lead meeting steel. It’s the people. From the regulars that tirelessly and reliably are there every match to help out, to our regular competitors, to our new shooters who keep showing up each month. I have shot several different disciplines of competition since 1988 and I’ll challenge anyone anywhere to find a match where the competitors are as accommodating, helpful and sharing. I mean sharing of everything from Anschutz’s to spotting scopes; from match strategies and tips to detailed coaching and spotting. The people make this match a joy to run.

In the days prior to this month’s match we had torrential rains from tropical storm Andrea – I’m talking 4”+ of rain in 48 hours. We are doing some excavating at CVRPC to make the parking at the 200 meter line larger and with that comes a few complications. Thanks to Andrea, this meant mud….lots of mud and limited parking. Our apologies for the mess to the competitors and visitors and we will work to wrap up the parking project in the coming month and get some gravel in place.

The good news was that Saturday was absolutely beautiful with temps in the mid 80’s and light winds. A great day for shooting .22’s! We had several new shooters present this month taking on the challenging TSC course and we really appreciate you guys coming out and hope to see you back next month. A special thanks goes out to K. Stevens and son J. Stevens for coming out. Both father and son had great scores for their first TSC event. I watched the younger Mr. Stevens shoot a couple stages and it was evident early on that he has talent and quickly understood the match stages, scoring, and positions. We really hope you guys are back with us next month. We had D. Branson up from eastern NC and it was really good to discuss Match Director “trials and tribulations” with him throughout the day. Thanks for coming up sir and looking forward to seeing you at the DMM Match in a couple weeks. I also want to mention A.Johnson, D. Fruitt, and E. Rosamond for posting very respectable first time scores and we really hope to see you guys back – and bringing some friends along at future matches.

Now to the competition. Starting up top……..well. all I can say is that I knew it was coming sooner rather than later. T. McCloskey and his Winchester 52 showed the way this month with a very strong score of 56x72 for the win. ‘Bunsen has really come on strong the past few months and is now the man to beat. Great shooting TM and congrats! Second place went to C. England with a very nice score of 52. Mr’s England and McCloskey were tied with 46’s at the end of Stage 3 and it was decided on the 210 yard, Stage 4 steel. Third this month went to J. Lassiter with a 50………but there is a little more to this story. Armorpl8chkn was a bit sleep deprived as he pulled an all night shift the night before and to shoot a 50 on this course is no easy task.
Great shooting Joe and thanks for shooting and for RO’ing as well.

Now to the Junior shooters. J. Roe tied his personal best of 49 today with his Anschutz 1903Jr. I want to bring attention that Jaybird (13y.o.) tied for 4th place overall. Jay will be knocking on the door for the win very soon. J. Stevens fired a score of 28 on his first ever match and will be giving Jay a run for his money before the year is out. It is great to have both of you young men here competing with us. P. Johnson was High Lady with a great score of 47 and finished a solid 6th place overall. Great shooting PJ and it’s always great to have you here.

Just for S&G’s, we moved back to the 300 yard line for a little side match fun. Nine competitors took on the Stage 4 steel at distance and I gotta say it is amazing how accurate a quality .22LR rig with quality ammo can be. In years past I though a .22LR was a 100 yard round - at best. That has proven to be far from the truth as 200-300 yard, precision, predictable hits are the norm at TSC. We had a great battle between R. Brown and his Martini and B. Franklin and his MPR for the long distance win with ‘Brownie besting Mr. Frankin in a shootoff. Very impressing shooting gentlemen. D. Branson brought home 3rd place with a good run in the 300 yard challenge.

The match ran smooth and without a hitch thanks to all those who helped run the line and set targets. It’s takes a team effort to put this thing together each month and we couldn’t do it without you. See ya next month.

I will echo Steve's statement that is truly is the people and fellowship that make this match so special, although the course of fire isn't too shabby either! This match marked two years since my first TSC match (10 total). In that time period I've shot four different rifles (CZ 452, Anz 64, Win 52 B & D) and sent well over a case of ammo downrange in practice. I've enjoyed every minute of it!!

Yesterday was a bit of a whirlwind and at times blurry for me, but a a truly outstanding and memorable day. My highlight of the day isn't actually winning the match. Although I am extremely grateful and humbled to have done so, as it is a challenging course of fire with outstandingly fierce yet very friendly competition.

I honestly had no idea Curtis and myself were tied at 46 going into Stage 4, even though we shot side by side, until I read Steve's match report!! After shooting Stage 3 I went off into my own little corner of the world and didn't come back out until it was time to shoot Stage 4. Curtis has been very consistent this year placing 2nd twice and 3rd once in four matches while shooting 51 and 52 the last two matches. It's only a matter of time before he breaks through! Props to J. Lassiter for posting a solid 50 early on while being loopier than normal (due to sleep deprivation). Curtis and Joe also picked up the bonus targets of the match with their Yote double (did you see the picture yet?) at 212yds. :)

The highlight of my day actually was getting to spend the day with old friends of the CTSC, FINALLY dragging along a great shooting buddy, while also introducing a Father and son to the match! It somehow worked out perfectly with the randomly drawn shooting order that Jordan was on relay #2, Ken on relay #6, Dave on #11 and myself on #14 so that I could spot/coach for each of them for their entire match (except for Dave).

I've been nagging Branson to come shoot this match for nearly two years since he is the person that got me into LR competitive shooting. I have worn him down over time, and slowly have gotten him addicted to rimfire by letting him shoot some of my nice toys during our weekend shooting trips. I do believe he enjoyed himself quite a bit yesterday as we already have plans to return in July. ;)

Ken and Jordan each had an outstanding first showing using equipment they have never fired or handled before the match. Jordan had the slight misfortune of drawing the second relay which did not enable him to watch and become familiar with the flow and nuances of shooting the match. He however rallied like a trooper and demonstrated very strong future potential by posting a 12/18 on his first stage followed by a solid 9/18 on his second. Stages 3 & 4 were not as kind due to swirling winds and some unfamiliar shooting positions. Father Ken turned in a solid performance and was able to maintain order by gently edging Jordan out with a 33. It was an absolute joy and pleasure spending the day spotting and helping them out. I hope they will become regulars of the CTSC. I think with a bit more practice Jordan will be able to give Jay “the Sniper” Roe a healthy dose of Jr. competition.

Speaking of Jay, it was nice to see him and Dad Jimmy return after a two month absence. Jay posted a very solid 49 for 5th overall being edged out by uncle Stevie while Jimmy posted a respectable 44. I don't believe Jay has cracked the 50 barrier yet, but when he does, we are all in trouble. :)

Once again we enjoyed stepping back to 300yds with the dinky 22LR's. I had the distinct pleasure of spotting for R.Brown for his first round and subsequent shoot off. Ronnie went 10/10 the first round at 300yds with the only error being killing a hostage. Hats off to B.Franklin for forcing the shoot off by downing the bonus targets with his last two shots!!

Looking forward to seeing everybody again in July and those of you coming over for the DMM on June 22nd!!

Bump for this coming weekends match. Will we have calm or breezy conditions and can anybody break the 60 barrier? Looking forward to Saturday!

Match is this Saturday 7/13. Hopefully the rains are over! We apologize in advance for the limited parking currently available due to the excavation for the parkinng expansion. Hopefully this will be wrapped up in the coming weeks.

NOTE: A couple new stages this month - Bring your "packs" or bags and also be prepared to execute a few shots weakhand (Left and Right firing positions prone).

Thanks,
SR

Sounds like somebody took a few ideas home from the DMM match last month. ;) I'll bring the full bag of gadgets, whizbangs, and whirlygigs I utilize at the DMM.

One question I will pose in advance for consideration concerning weak side shooting: "do we have to pull the trigger with our weak hand trigger finger?"

I bring this up becasue if the body position allows I typically shoot rifle weak side prone: left shoulder, left eye, but run the trigger and bolt with my right hand.

You will be more than welcome. Drop your hide name when you see me and your match fee is on me. Thank you for your service!
I am easy to spot...although a lot less easy lately than I used to be.

Hehehehehe......Mmmmmmm.....yeah.......The DMM did inspire a few ideas. I'm always looking to add something new to the match to keep it fresh and interesting.

Yes, if a competitor wants to cycle the bolt and control the trigger with their right hand that is fine. As long as the "weak hand" shot is from the opposite shoulder position.

Come on out Redman - be glad to have ya shoot with us.

SR

Hopefully I'll have my 40x by then to join you guys and I won't be too much at a disadvantage shooting a single shot!

With 4 minutes to fire 10 shots for record I think you'll be fine. Even if you don't have the 40x up and running come over. I always have my backup gun (Anz 64) in the truck you can use.

.22 Tactical Steel Challenge
Conover, NC
July 13, 2013 Match Recap

Our July 2013 match was held under overcast skies with temps in the low 80’s and little to no wind…..ideal for precision rimfire shooting. The range looked great thanks to the efforts of Curtis, RB, Joe, GW, and others. Many thanks to all who came out on Thursday and Friday afternoon to work on the range prep and set up. Our parking expansion should be nearing completion by next month with lots of convenient space available soon.

We had new shooters present again this month taking on the TSC course and we really appreciate you guys coming out. Lynne Bolt and son Ryan Bolt (Jr. shooter) came up and both shot great for their first time at CVRPC. Ryan posted a very impressive score of 32 in his first ever TSC shoot! Ken and Jordan Stevens shot again this month and we hope to make you “regulars” every month. D. Fruitt and E. Rosamond were back this month for their 2nd TSC match and we hope to see you guys back next month and bringing some of those BR shooters with ya.

This month we incorporated a couple new firing positions including a prone strong hand/ weak hand stage that offered many shooters (myself included) their first opportunity to fire prone from the “off” shoulder. We quickly discovered a significant impact point shift for many shooters in the off-shoulder position. The other new position was a simulated rooftop style position which was embraced by almost everyone and immediately deemed a really fun and exciting position. I attended the “Woody’s DMM” match last month and, admittedly, I enjoyed the stage and decided to bring the idea back to Conover. Thanks Damon and Dave! We will continue to bring safe, interesting, and challenging shooting formats to the TSC match.

This month S. Roe had “one of those days” when things just seem to work like they should, the planets aligned, and a 63x72 resulted. This set a new TSC record. C. England was close behind with a 58x72 for second place. Curtis has been very consistent this season and this made the second month in a row that Curtis has finished in the runner-up position. I think CE’s long range sights are set on the Shooter of the Year aggregate. Consistent again, Joe Lassiter finished in third place once again this month with a very strong score of 54. As mentioned above, Ryan Bolt had a great first match and brought home 1st Jr. Shooter honors. P. Johnson was top Lady this month with a solid score of 37.

The match ran smooth and without a hitch thanks to all those who helped run the line and set targets. We cycled 28 shooters through the course and were wrapped up by 2:30PM. Thanks to everyone and see ya next month!

Great shooting Steve! That was not an easy course of fire with the weak side 210yd shots and the incline/simulated roof top. I had a great time helping the Bolt's and Steven's throughout the match. With their recent acquisition of a CZ 455 Varmint and a Vortex 6.5-20x50 scope I think we will be seeing them quite reguarly. I'm looking forward to the August match and I will drag Branson along so Joe can mess with hime some more. :)
