I've been meaning to upgrade my RRA for about a year now. Not only did I want to get some better parts, but after seeing the LWRC OD rifles, wanted to get it painted as well.

I contacted Michael Ware at Controlled Chaos Arms to see if he could do the upgrades, perform his reliability package, and cerakote my rifle. I couldn't be happier with the work.

Here are the upgrades I went with:

1. WOA 16" DMR fluted 1:7" barrel w/ matching bolt
2. Threaded 5/8-24 to fit .30 cal suppressor
3. Noveske mid-length switchblock gas system
4. LaRue 10" FF rail that CCA modified to fit the switchblock.
5. Vortex FH
6. CCA Reliability package
7. OD cerakote

Here are pics while Michael was working on it:

And here they are since the brown truck dropped it off. I put my TA01 ACOG on it.

Thanks to CCA for their great work. I can't wait to get this out to the range.

Over the past year, this rifle's been my go-to gun for multi-gun matches. The past few times out I've had cycling issues that try as I might, I couldn't get to the bottom of. CCA's reliability package was an option I chose to go over the internals of my rifle and replace worn out parts and test fire, both suppressed and unsuppressed, to ensure the kinks were worked out of my rifle. For me this was a really attractive option because despite shooting the AR platform for years, I'm not a gunsmith and I haven't been able to diagnose the functioning issues. On top of all that, with the addition of all the new parts, I wanted a professional to give my rifle a good inspection and test firing.

The switchblock is simply an adjustable gas system. It has 3 settings: S-suppressed, O-open, closed. After talking to a couple guys that shoot a lot of suppressed ARs, I figured having the flexibility of another gas setting would be ideal in ensuring my rifle functions with all loads, both with and without the can. Here's a link to the Noveske switchblock site .

nice. i thought it was something like that. easier than other adjustables with a set screw. nice. and i agree on the pro going over. know when to call the pros from Dover, lol

You know, that's a lesson I've learned the hard way. I love to tinker with my rifles here and there, but I don't have the training or the tools (yet!) to make sure that rifle will function flawlessly every time I take it out. That's why I had CCA do the work, and as you can see from the pics, they do excellent work.

What I was really going for with this build was a hybrid between portability and accuracy. I didn't want a dedicated 18 or 20" barrel with a full rifle rail and gas system because they give up a great deal in handling. But I still wanted excellent accuracy. WOA has made a great name for itself, and they were easy to work with.

I'm hoping to take it shooting this weekend. If I do, I'll post some range pics.

its like anyone can put one together. but guys that know them can fix this or that with a little tweak here, a bigger hole there, add an ounce or two to the buffer, whatever voodoo they do. if you dont get lucky and put together a perfectly functioning rifle, you gotta know when to get help.
