I have been looking at the 57m .22 Classic and a 54 Jackson hunter custom in 260 rem. The test targets look great, but are they really the best rifle in that price range? I really want a couple of nice accurate rifles.

No I was not aware of that. That does change the game alot for the 260, really just looking for input on these caliber rifles.

They are nice rifles, but I couldn't part with that kind of cash for what they are. I'd personally have a custom done for that cash or just buy an SPS in 7mm-08 and throw it in a manners or Mickey. Or consider doing the same with a Tikka or Sako.

I have a Cooper M22 in 6mm Remington. I shot it in a 600 yd f-class match and scored 199/12x shooting off a harris bipod. That would be outstanding for a purpose built f-class rifle. For a 100% "out of the box" production hunting rifle, that is amazing and to me makes the rifle worth every penny. It is my favorite varmint rifle and I have a bunch to choose from including a few customs.

That was 4 years ago, and he's no longer the CEO of the company.
I can't speak for the centerfires, but you won't find a better rimfire for the money.

he's right he is an obama supporter and donator but he got lots of pressure from lots of sources, including from within the company so he actually stepped down to distance himself from the company so as not to effect the companies good name. I know they have a loyal following as well as people who think their over priced but man do they look good no matter which side of the fence your on.

If I remember correctly, their .22lr rifles are cloned Anschutz 54 actions. I actually use a couple used Cooper magazines in my Annie. Very solid action and by all accounts Cooper has produced a high quality clone mated to a high quality barrel. I am not sure if they deliver quite the accuracy of an Annie, seems like less folks have spent less time really testing that in detail, but everything I have read seems to say they shoot well and the stocks are sure a whole lot nicer than Anschutz.

they have a bunch of cooper rifles at my local gun store... i was rather impressed by the quality and especially the trigger on a .243 i was looking at, BUT it was $1599!!!! ouch! I think I would be all over it if it was more like $1000 or maybe $1199, but $1599 is pushing it for me IMO... they also had some 3shot groups right next to each rifle.... was a bullet in a bullet hole.

Outstanding rifle. Build quality is top notch, and accuracy is amazing. I'd absolutely buy another.

It seems like most of them, if not all are single shot. I am not a fan so could be wrong, but that is all I have seen. Also, Mr Cooper saw fit to support Obama in the last election, which could weigh for or against them to those considering purchase.

I have asked Cooper about the targets and they did confirm they are shot at 50 yards.
I just sent my 52 in to them to have re-barreld into the 6.5x284 they quoted me $415.00 I thought this was a reasonable price.

Nice rifles but a little too pretty for my tastes. Reminds me of safe queens. Plus that 50 yard target means nothing! I'm sure it would be hard to find a rifle that can't do the same at 50 yards!

Nice rifles but a little too pretty for my tastes. Reminds me of safe queens. Plus that 50 yard target means nothing! I'm sure it would be hard to find a rifle that can't do the same at 50 yards!

I live just a couple hours from there shop and grew up around many Cooper rifles, The're shooters! Ive neaver heared a complaint. For F class I would do one with the synthetic stock. There basicaly a custom rifle. a custom action usually costs $800+, custom barrel chaimbered and installed $500+, trigger and stock your total would be over well over $2000. I think there a decent buy if you want to buy a complete rifle.

I believe they build their own triggers. I have seen several at the range and they were shooters.
