corrosive ammo sucks

Okla.
I built a blow back 7.62 x 25 upper thinking the ammo was cheap and it would be fun to shoot. I choose to go blow back because I knew going into this project the surplus ammo was corrosive and I figured it would be easier to avoid a gas system to keep clean. But this surplus ammo is ridiculous! I can run three 35 round mags and be covered in the shit. And you have to clean it immediately or the rust starts. The surplus ammo was louder than I wanted with the suppressor on so I started pulling bullets and cutting powder down. This didn't help with the mess so I bit the bullet and got a can of Unique. This is completely defeating the purpose of buying cheap surplus ammo and to boot it's still filthy! I now assume the main culprit is the primer and not the powder.

I see all these guys on youtube running these things and claim to be shooting surplus ammo. How come I'm not seeing the cloud of corrosive smoke surrounding them like I get?(It's so bad I HAVE to wear goggles when I shoot it) How is anyone keeping their gas system clean? How did the Russians even come close to winning any war with this shit? I can't believe a PPSH41 or PPS43 ran for more than a day shooting this crap.

Yes, I know. I should have just built a 9mm.

edit: In case you are wondering,
6gr of the Romanian surplus with the 86gr bullet gets you 950 fps out of a 10" barrel.

I haven't chrono'd the Unique yet but 3.5grs is sub w/86gr bullet

Re: corrosive ammo sucks

Did you build a 7.62X25 that fits a 16 lower or what? If you did is your's a closed or open bolt? Also, if it's a 16 lower have you re-weighted the carrier to delay opening?

Re: corrosive ammo sucks

Sorry, I should have added that info. It's AR15 lower, closed bolt. The bolt is a stock RR 9mm bolt. I had to turn a extra heavy buffer out of brass and add a wolf double power spring to slow it down with the unaltered surplus ammo. I was breaking pins before I added the spring and buffer.

hahaha , surplus 7.62x54r ammo isnt so bad,

Re: corrosive ammo sucks

I'm a cheap ass and I like to build stuff myself so I started from scratch, literally. Those uppers are nice but do people take apart the gas system after every use?

I just learned Unique is a rather dirty powder. Trail Boss has been suggested.

Re: corrosive ammo sucks

That little bit of delay in the gas system makes a lot of difference. After shooting, a little Windex is all that needed to neutralize the salts.

I should have put more consideration into the delay factor. No matter what powder I run in it, all of the cases come out black.

I tried some Trail Boss, worked up to 4.5gr, just short of compressing it, which I understand is a no-no for TB. Getting 980 to 1010 without smoke in the eyes, think I will stop while the stopping is good.

Thanks for the input.
