Well, I have a DD rail on my AR, and I noticed today that it is loose... it has some wobble to it... The gas tube is keeping it in place... I don't have anything to fix this... No tools or anything...

So, what do I do Snipers Hide?

How is it loose? Does the whole rail turn? Who installed it?
If you look at the rail from buttstock to muzzle, can you see the two posts in the barrel nut that are supposed to keep it from rotating? Are they at 9 and 3 oclock?

You might just need to tighten the threaded ring that goes over the barrel nut. You can do this with a hammer and a punch if you have em.

The whole thing is turning, even the pins keeping it in place. I tried tightening it, and it didnt work. I bought the upper from a member on the hide, and he put it together before he sent it to me... maybe didnt get tightened all the way?

Alright. Well, I do not have any tools to tighten it, so it looks like it is off to the smith.

Re: Crap... I need help again... Loose Quad rail...

If you have a vice and a torque wrench, I'd send you an action block and barrel nut wrench to borrow. Its not difficult to do.

I m just going to send it to SAC and have Mark fix it. It will end up better that way...

Re: Crap... I need help again... Loose Quad rail...

Ah, rgr that. Never used an FSB with pins, I always used gas blocks with set screws so I never got a fsb block to set/remove pins with.

Re: Crap... I need help again... Loose Quad rail...

Hmm, researching, talking to others that had the same problem as me.... looks like I might need to replace the rail system...

Re: Crap... I need help again... Loose Quad rail...

I wouldnt go to that extreme. But do what you want. I had an FDE 9.0 that never came loose. Whomever puts it on needs to tighten it 3x (like any barrel nut)and not just try once and leave it.

Re: Crap... I need help again... Loose Quad rail...

if he doesnt send it off, someone send him some tools to borrow. because we all know if you want something done right, you do it yourself. or send it to a pro

Re: Crap... I need help again... Loose Quad rail...

Well, I am either going to send it to Short Action Customs, or do it myself. I like the idea of sending it off, since I'd rather have it done right than have myself mess it up and be in the same situation again.

You send it to a Qualified gunsmith who has the correct tools and knowledge to put it together. One thing I would not chance is the barrel area of a rifle..... I would like to keep my face and hands intact.

Re: Crap... I need help again... Loose Quad rail...

Is the lock ring loose on the rail? This happened to me with my DD M4 Rail. Easy fix though.

When was the rail installed? At time of rifle/upper purchase or after market installation? Either way, I would send it back to them.

Re: Crap... I need help again... Loose Quad rail...

The lock ring is tightened all of the way, and there is still wobble in the rail. To the gunsmith it shall go.

Well, this is what's going to happen. i talked to Bill at Daniel Defense, and he told me to ship it there directly. Big +1 for DD, great folks to deal with.
