Well I have my Crimson Trace optic in hand and can give a report on my impressions so far. I got the 5-25 mil reticle (non Christmas tree). When I took it out of the box it appeared to be a well built solid optic. It comes with lens caps which are similar to Butler Creek but no sun shade. The glass is outstanding for the price point so far. I have only got to use it on a bright sunny day so far but the glass is as good or better than my Ares ETR. I would actually say it is pretty darn close to my Sig Tango 6. The tracking test showed it tracked accurately. The one complaint most people will have with it is the turrets. It has nice big 10 mil per revolution turrets. The turrets have nice tension and a really good feel when dialing. It does only have 22 mils of total evevation which seems odd on a 34 mm tube. I had no problem making .1 mil adjustments or skipping settings like I do with some scopes. The turrets however do not have really audiable clicks like many people want though. It very distinctly snaps to each new position, it just isn’t really loud. Personally as long as I can feel the turrets I don’t need to hear them. I am usually wearing hearing protection anyway. I will take the turret off and see if there is grease or something else that may help with this. I will be putting it through it’s paces over the next few weeks and should be able to give more feedback then. So far it seems like a really solid optic and good choice in its price class.

Any updates on this optic? Still loving it, still have it? A lot of sale prices going on for the 5 and 3 series, I take it they aren't selling terribly well. Its hard to find a good non-biased review of them also.

The glass was good but the more I used it the more I disliked the turrets. It seemed like they became much easier to turn the more I used it. After I realized my windage turret had spun for the second time just from transporting it in the rifle bag I decided it wasn’t serviceable for my purposes. The 5 series maybe better in this respect. For the 3 series they seemed to get the glass right but that was about it. Granted this was a sample of one but I sold mine and will not be buying another regardless of the discount. Like I said the 5 series may be a lot better but the scope just want serviceable for me.

Great feedback. You're helping me not snag the 5-20 on DVOR right now which is $560. If the turrets are that bad its not worth it, unless I shoot completely with the tree reticle, and even then if the windage turret bumps that easily what's the use?

That is exactly why I sold mine. The first time it spun was in a match. Luckily I was letting a friend barrow the rifle and it didn’t doom me. Not that he was thrilled it though. After that I lost all confidence in the scope.
