Seen this scat in the woods a couple of months ago. sorry all I could find for scale.
Then I found a 5 toe track a few days later, have heard about sightings of big cats and black bear not far from here in bum fuck mid east Tx.
And then today a big 4 toe track that doesn't look like dog. Damn big dog if it is the glasses are 5.5".

Sure looks like a black bear track to me.

Never tracked a wolf and curious on the second one.

Big kitty tracks are different.

Late season doe hunt. Mid morning and packing out 2 deer.
First one out and on the way back for the second I ran across these that had come off a big hill and followed me for a bit.
That boot is right at 12” long

I have seen claws on cat tracks on soft ground and in snow. Here are someone else's pictures of some domestic cat tracks. There were mountain lions tracks at the golf course here a few years back. CPW, then still game and fish found a couple with visible claws and insisted it was a dog. 🤣🤣🤣 Don't get me started on people and their degree. He didn't even use his degree, he looked online and it said if it has claws it's not a cat track.

I agree with the "large canine" crowd.

Cat tracks aren't going to have claw prints. Black bear claws are usually longer and have angle to them (best term I can think of without coffee at 0530).

Soft ground makes everything appear larger.

You should see the size of some of the paws that livestock guardian dogs can have.

I"m on "Team Black Bear" on this one. I even saw them roaming about the sub-division of my old PUD in the PRNJ.

When the population became "overgrown" in given year, the State would authorize a limited "Bear Season." You bought tags from the State and go hunting" for like a month or so. Usually in the middle of Autumn.

SCAT: Black bear in the neighborhood of 150 lbs
Tracks: Not so sure.

Tracks=dog. Clearly one printed on another. Undoubtedly no question 100% without a doubt. The line on the bear track I posted was show orientation of the pad to toes. A dog track makes X with its pad on the bottom two toes in the sides and two toes in the top.

If you hold your hands out palm down and look. Your longest finger is your middle finger. If you look at cat tracks their toes are oriented so the middle finger is longest, and also arranged in front of the pad more like a bear.

If you are used to looking at them, they don't look similar.
