This would be quite the trip. @sirhrmechanic you up for it? I bet Army Jerry would go I would have 40 years ago. I did drive as far as southern Costa Rica. Intended to swim in the Panama Canal but had a family emergency and had to turn for home.

I have some friends doing it in an old Rolls right now.

I won’t ride in Mexico under any circumstances. BTDT and never again. And last Time I was there was 1992…. And it was way less cartel-infested than today. NFW.

My ride this fall is Labrador.

Next spring Lincoln hwy and Alaska incl the Aleutian’s.

After that probably ship bike to Australia to ride. And NZ if it is no longer socialist-run.
Or Bietnam HoChiMinh trail. Which is supposed to be amazing. And VN is less Commie than NZ

Last time I was in Mexico was about 2008, still calm then. shortly after that it went to shit. Like you, as much as Id like to retire to Oaxaca, nothanks.

I would love to make the drive down to Ushuaia one of these days. The problem is getting through central America with vehicles, and all the visa's that have to be arranged ahead of time, permits for the vehicles, blah blah blah. There's a youtube channel Expedition Overland that did the trip a few years back, and the paperwork just seemed like a massive hassle, even as prepared as they seemed to be. I've driven to Tuktoyuktuk in the Northwest Territories, but we stayed south of fairbanks that year, never venturing north to the haul road to Deadhorse, which is a massive regret for me. We just ate up too much time just getting to Alaska, and had a hard date to be back cause the girls were all flying to Europe right after we got back. 12,557 miles for that trip though.

In 96 I drove to Costa Rica and it wasnt that much problem. The roads are now mostly pretty good and petrol readily available. I got all my Visas in Houston on the way, you can even do it by mail. If I remember in Mexico you dont even need a visa anymore, just paperwork for the vehicle and Entrada/entrance papers. Do buy inflated insurance from Sanborn's because in Mexico is youre in an accident everybody goes to jail until its sorted out. And with a Sanborn's sticker on the vehicle no body will touch it...theyre the original cartel, cost them money and you get hunted down.

It Really helps if you speak at least passable Spanish, you get a lot more respect and co operation. If you dont know your stuff You'll get really fucked financially at the border crossings

I was headed for Panama but had a family emergency at home and had to return. Beautiful drive, friendly people. Guatemala is enchanting, El Salvador incredibly friendly, and Nicaragua a bit of an enigma and a place to be really careful but enjoy.

Thats 1100 per day, a fucking highway. I should go set up a Soft Taco Stand. If you could make just $00.50 off half of them that would be $550 a day. Until you got robbed and killed.
