Crux or RRS carbon tripod

Crux uses Pro Media Gear to make their products. I have the PMG TR344 and my brother has the PMG TR424L. Both tripods are amazing. Sturdy, well built and easy to use and maintain. We both run the RRS BH55 ball heads with different adapters and would also highly recommend them. In any case, you will get a nice product that is made in the USA!

Do you feel the taller version is needed if using Bino’s On them? Looks like all the crux are 58 inches

Give this article a read.

Tripods

I was in the same dilemma that you were and decided to buy an RRS and have not had one regret. This article came out after the fact but I think it is a good summary. I had the opportunity to try a few different tripods at a class I took. Made the decision to go RRS easy even though it was more than I wanted to spend.

I would not buy the BH55 ballhead as it is not as stable as the Anvil 30. Ask me how I know.....

There aren't a lot of details to share

I bought the BH55 as I thought panning is necessary (new to the tripod thing) so I went full bore. What I noticed is a lot more shake in the scope. More than I thought should be possible. Don't get me wrong, it was not terrible but certainly not what I expected. I chalked it up to being a beginner with a tripod.

A month or so later, I read a thread on here comparing ball heads. It was done by @Diver160651. It was super comprehensive. The link is

RRS Leveling Heads

His findings kind of confirmed my experience so I ordered an Anvil 30. It was much more stable from the shake perspective. I have a feeling that since it is less complex, it is less affected by external vibration but not sure.

Read the link above as it will definitely give you some food for thought

I’ve ran the BH-55 and Anvil 30 quite a bit side by side, and my experience mirrors Niks. The Anvil is more stable for sure.

I've played with a Crux and own a TFC-33 with an Anvil on an apex conversion (no video bowl, just an Anvil mounted to legs). I'd say you won't be disappointed in either, but I am partial to the lighter weight and lower folded profile of the TFC/Anvil combo.
