CTR on LR 308 - what is needed?

Re: CTR on LR 308 - what is needed?

You'll need:

1) either a mil-spec or a commercial carbine receiver extension (buffer tube)...pick the one that matches the CTR which is also available in both commercial and mil-spec sizes;

2) castle nut and end plate;

3) shortened .308 carbine buffer and modified AR-10/LR-308 carbine recoil spring such as those sold by Clint Butler (aka - Slash) as seen here: http://www.heavybuffers.com/ar10carbine.html

Done and done.

does it matter if its milspec or commercial on my lr as long as it fits the ctr? </div></div>

The size of the buffer tube/stock (i.e. - mil-spec or commercial) has nothing to do with the rifle/carbine its being installed on. As long as the stock size corresponds with the buffer tube size, it'll work. In the case of the complete kit you linked to, you are correct that all you'd need to do is swap the ST-T2 buffer and spring for the correct, shortened buffer and modified spring for it to work on your LR-308.

Also, if you don't have a carbine spanner wrench (or AR multi-tool with the spanner on it) to properly install the carbine receiver extension/castle nut, you'll need one of those as well.

all the parts are in. just checking this thread again as i read of somebody having issues with their bolt after an install. im guessing they didnt have this shorter buffer and spring like i ordered.

rather easy install. hoping to get this setup to the range or at least shoot at my place to make sure everything is dialed in alright and to sight in the 2 scopes for it.

not so exciting series of pics below. The Larue RISR ended up coming off after I put the scopes on and realized it was putting me up too high.

exactly what im looking for. had a prs on it before as well. this gun has gone from a 24"ss barreled chunker and is slowly getting dialed in to be much lighter while retaining accuracy. final step will be barrel/handguard/bolt carrier mods.
