Many years ago as a E5 with 2 kids we were on food stamps......nothing new here
That is damn disgusting. A sad statement about us and this country.
Never used food stamps, but we did get WIC when our daughters were real little...it was embarrassing.
With the cost of food these days, folks need all the extra help they can get and no shame in taking it.
Especially if you are one of the working class or such that is feeling the pinch hard.

Honestly the low E ranks should not be making good money, it’s a legit zero skill job that anyone who’s not retarded or a 300lb land yacht can get….and we pay for it out of our checks

If you are a single income household of two adults and have a bunch of young children, you have to be making quite a lot to not be able to get at least WIC food benefits and a lot of folks probably qualify for some food stamps as well but just don't know it.

Food pantries are hurting as well.. cash donations aren't going as far, and donations are down for same reason.
Illegals are at least twice as likely to need welfare (66% of foreign born citizens on welfare vs 33% of US born) are probably putting additional strain on resources.

Either way the mil is a socialistic institution. Men sign away their personal sovereignty to the state, get everything provided to them with funds derived from the theft of the private sector working class, and get gov’t funded healthcare like in communist countries to boot. Socialism.

Now, the fact that all government salaries (including the military of course) are derived from taxes (or deficit spending, which is worse IMHO) is true, but all government employees, including the military pay taxes too…. Some exemptions while in combat zones, but even that’s capped.

I was available for them all the way to E5 also....never applied for them. Maybe it was my pride or my ethics..... Who knows.....

I’m not incorrect here by any stretch. Fill a bucket half full of water. No matter how many cups you dip from the bucket and pour back in, it will never fill. Water must come from outside the bucket to fill it. I hope this simple analogy helps you understand what many of you can’t seem to.
A capitalist gov’t does not produce any product that consumers can purchase. It performs no service that customers are willing to seek out. A gov’t man’s paycheck is a net negative on the economy. A gov’t man can not pay for himself in any way. He is a drain on the economy in every sense of the meaning regardless if you feel it’s a necessary evil.
For the record, I do not think you are my opposition although if you make a living serving this police state then I cannot trust you. I say things I do out of honesty. I’m the friend that would rather tell you that you look stupid than to let you go out in public thinking otherwise.
