I tried searching around on here. But couldn't find a good answer.

I am going to start reloading for a .308. I only have a small base RCBS die for my fal so I still have the funds to get what I need for my Savage fp10.

I did see on here that alot of people that are shooting out to 1000 yrds are getting custom dies made to their rifles chamber. How much does a set like this cost?

I live in Knoxville and after seeing Tresmon post I know that Oakridge has a 1000 yrd range, and on my farm I can setup a 300 yrd range pretty easily.

I would just hate to spend 100+ on a full lenght/comp seater die set to find out I can get a custom die for x amount that will make my brass last longer since it is getting sized to my chamber like i believe it is steve that has the 300 hulk rifle. I read his post about getting dies and having your rifle trued ect.

Thanks for the help

Re: .308 die question

don't know where you got intel on custom dies to shoot long came from......but many here just use hi-end rcbs or redding dies with micrometer tops to them.....what you are going for is consistency and repeatability .....

Re: .308 die question

I am not saying I have to have custom dies to shoot long distance.

But if I can get custom dies for say 100 more than a regular set, save myself time and frustration. It might be worth it in the long run.

I was just asking the people that have custom dies how much and where did they have them made.

Re: .308 die question

I would save the custom dies until you get a custom barrel and chamber.Any brand 2-die set will load better than factory ammo, and over the potential of most factory rifles. The next step up would be a competition type seater. If you really want custom, check out Neil Jones. Pete
