I’m looking to build a rifle into a Q Side Chick chassis. These are designed around a Remington 700 action and to use the rail that is part of the chassis system needs a factory accepting scope rail. Are there any custom actions that accept the standard 700 scope rails?

I believe I’d ask them which actions it will work on....and demand a more thorough answer than “any action which uses a factory R700 rail”.

Frankly, to my experience, asking a rail to line up with the action and the hand guard in the way that their design is attempting while also staying level/plumb/true/not bent is asking more than is reasonable given the *extremly* tightly controlled manufacturing of most R700 actions, rails, chassis, etc.

I have reached out to them and have yet to receive a reply (it was Friday afternoon). I understand your response and theory. One option I have is to go with a Bergara B14 Special Purpose. Or to find another lightweight folding chassis. My goal is a lightweight, bolt side folder, 18” barrel, and keeping the folded length as short as possible.

I’d want a firm up/down answer from them on any action I was considering unless I could take the chassis to a shop and test it out...which is often hard to do...before getting involved in wait times/transfer fees/ etc on a “maybe”. One option might be to go with an action that has an integral rail and then just don’t use their one piece rail. You’d give up the rail section on the hand guard but would have a lot more choices on actions (I think).

I’ve considered that as well and know some have gone that route. It just seems the integrated rail is part of the design of the system and maintaining rigidity. Maybe a trued 700 or Bergara action is the only way to make the chassis work.

I really like the look and options of that MDT ESS. It’s a bolt side folder too. Weight isn’t my biggest concern, I mainly want to keep the folded length around 28” long total.

Those were just off the top of my head options if you can’t make the side chick chassis work with the action you want to use. I’ve never used an MDT Chassis but I have an original GEN one XLR element and I can’t believe that wouldn’t be the lightest option if weight is a concern. The newer versions of the Element have more features but mine has never let me down. MDT has a stellar reputation around the Hide. You might look at the KRG W3 for a folder as well.

Defiance can make you a Rebel with Rem 700 contour top along with factory spec spacing and thread for the 4 base screws.
