I'm getting ready to put together a new longrange rifle, and haven't decided on a smith yet. It's a semi budget build. I have the stock (new bell and carlson m40, jewel trigger, and Remington 700 action).

Here's my question. It seems like several of the custom barrel makers offer putting it all together. Including bedding, trueing, muzzlebrakes, etc...

Can anyone tell me why I should or shouldn't have a custom barrel maker finish the job?

Seems like it makes sense...

Get ahold of GA Precision. They always have Bartlein barrels onhand to screw on and can do all the other work as well. Not saying Bartlein can't do it but I like to have rifle smiths build rifles and barrel makers make barrels.

+1 My thoughts exactly. If you talk to most of the top gunsmiths, they have barrels around or resources to get them in a reasonable time. I have had great luck with GA Precision. Those guys have the Bartlein barrels around. American Precision Arms works close with Broughton. Ozzie over at Saurez Tactical had some Kreiger barrels around last I talked with him.

Long story short, find a gunsmith, not a barrel maker to complete your project.

I agree, have a barrel maker make your barrel and a gunsmith screw iton and square everything. I like Pierce engineering, they did a varmint gun for me in 22-250 early last year and it shoots great.
