last week I had a gentleman come in with a custom rifle on a remington 700 action, it has a number 5 contour barrel with break and he wanted a scope that would give him the best clarity, an easy to use ballistic compensation system, and magnification for close shots as well as the ability to shoot to about 600 yards. He's hunting in high elevation, game is elk, and in the future, sheep, so weight was a consideration. keeping these things in mind, we went with a swarovski 3-18x50 z6 with ballistic turret and 4W reticle. we like the 4w because it gives you some windage references, and is a nice all around reticle we helped design. it gives him plenty of magnification, it's light considering it's size, and was a perfect fit for the rifle and intended task

for the base, he wanted something solid and very dependable, and we also though it would hurt to add a little extra adjustment, considering a lot of hunting scopes lack the adjustment range of their tactical counter parts, so we went with a nightforce 20 moa picatinny rail.

for the rings, we stuck with nightforce, and with that number 5 contour barrel, the low .885 optical center line rings fit easily, and in my experience with this set up, works up to a 56mm objective.
swarovski also offers some really nice lens covers, and while they are expensive, they are worth every penny if they protect your glass, so we set the scope up with said lens covers.
