i have a 28" sheiin barrel. there is no crown on the barrel. would it help accuracy to have the barrel shaved just enough to make a target crown. the gun will be used in f-class
If that is a Shilen 28" blank it's meant to be a 26" finished barrel.
A recessed target crown like "Victor" said or even an 11 degree will work. Doesn’t really matter for accuracy as long as the crown is cut straight to the bore and is burr free. All the other cutting is to get the crown set back to better protect it.
I mis-understood. I thought it was a new barrel. Most new barrels have to be trimmed a bit from both ends to make sure the areas where the lapping rods may have rubbed.
Randy is right about the 11 degree crown. A lot of benchrest shooters use it. It's on a few of my barrels.

It couldn't hurt. Crowns can get worn and simply re-cutting them can bring a rifle back to life.
