CZ 527 in 7.62x39

If nobody responds to help you out, I can tell you the length when I get home from work in about 11hrs.. I can tell you that it is one of my favorite rifles to shoot. It weighs close to nothing, the mag is easy to load and the bolt is smooth. Plus ammo is cheap and its more accurate that I expected. If you are on the fence about getting one, dont be worried, you will love it!!

That would be great!!

It looks a handy little rifle, I'm actually thinking about building a compact repeater in 30BR, or 6mm Dasher off one.
Definitely something on the 6BR case anyway

Mechanicjack could you please measure the barrel dia @ the shank too, curious to see

Thanks

Fun little rifle. Great as-is and would make a great base for a project. If I were at the house I'd get you the measurements you're looking for. I'll check back later to see if mechanicjack got you what you're looking for. If not, I'll measure mine.

Since the 220 Russian/6PPC's casehead dia is the same as the 7.62x39, I bought one of the M527 carbines for that ctdg a little over a year ago. Pulled the 7.62 bbl and replaced it with a Krieger 6mm/8tw in #3 sptr contour. Turned the Krieger's shank down to 1.071" from 1.250" to be a better match to the 527's receiver, then chambered it for 6RAT & finished it at 24". It's a nice little walking rifle - weight with a Sightron 4.5-14x44 BigSky scope is 8.5lbs, which is a welcome change from all the 12.5-14lb prone rifles I usually shoot. The stock magazine doesn't feed as smooth as I'd like, but it's fairly reliable with RAT ammo loaded in fully-formed cases. Haven't tweaked the mag much, so wouldn't be at all surprised if someone who's done a lot of magazine work would be able to get them to work perfectly. Since the OP is wanting to chamber one for the BR-based case, which has a .473" casehead, I'm assuming he's checked to make sure the 527's bolt can be opened up to work with that big a casehead?

Just finished another one of these rifles for a friend, only this time, I ordered the blank contoured with the shank at the smaller dia, then shortened it by nearly an inch so I wouldn't have to enlarge the bbl channel of the stock just ahead of the action as much as I did on my own rifle. Hope his shoots at least as good as mine does.

What I'd really liked to have used for the RAT bolt rifle would've been a SAKO PPC repeater, but when I do see one for sale on funbroker, they bring $1400+, which is a lot to pay for what's essentially a fun rifle. The 527 is a nice little rifle - the only thing I changed besides the bbl was the trigger - didn't care for the single set OEM at all, so installed a Rifle Basix trigger, which is head & shoulders above the set one.

Sorry guys. I work for a shipping company and its just been crazy the last few days.. I just got on here to post the measurements and it looks like my slow as got beat by SABuzzard. Haha. Thanks for coming to the rescue man. Again I'm sorry I couldn't post earlier guys..

Hi Flatland1,

Thats great info, sounds like i'm thinking along the same lines.

I haven't checked if the bolt can be opened up easily, but if it can't I'll just turn the rims down on the BR cases to PPC size. I've done this on a few of my Short Range BR rifles with no issues

I just hope the BR cases fit in the mag and feed ok!!! That i'm unsure of

The main aim of the upcoming project is to build a relatively cheap, highly accurate repeater rifle to shoot the 30 BR then eventually do a 6mmDasher barrel, and or even 22 dasher barrel maybe.

This is just a fun gun and aim to keep it compact and light weight along the same lines as it is in its original configuration.
I've got a spare Mk6 3-18 in the safe, doing nothing but prompting me to build something for it to sit on...... same old story:)

Kruger21 - Well, I just tried slipping a 6 Dasher round into my 527's 7.62x39 magazine - no joy. It'd go about halfway in, and then the casehead & body dia. wouldn't let it go any further. I'm a big Dasher fan myself - got my 1st Dasher bbl for a Nesika K-based prone rifle back in 2004, and have built several more myself since getting my lathe. But I dont' think this is gonna work...

Have you seen the 6RAT? - very similar to Whitley's 6mmAR Turbo, or IOW, a miniature Dasher. Neck a 6.5 Grendel case down to 6mm, leaving a false shoulder where the new shoulder will form, load 85+gr bullets fairly warm, and bingo - you've got match accurate fireform ammo. Not a hotrod by any measure, but a very efficient & accurate ctdg, nonetheless. I get 2750-2800fps with Hornady 87VMaxes out of my 24" bbl, and could probably get more. Using RL15 with 105 Berger VLDs, I'm getting 2780fps out of a 24" AR15 bbl.

Flatland1 Thats Bad news for my idea but I'm glad you checked that!
I had a suspicions it would be tight but i thought up near the shoulder not the casehead & body

I have a lot of 30cal 118grn copperhead match bullets on hand thats why i'm so keen on the 30BR.
Just sold all my BR rifles and 1000's of 6mm 105's etc (have young family no time for BR anymore)

Maybe modifying an AI 223 mag is the next option for repeater 30BR or Dasher do you know anyone who has succeeded in building a repeater with 6mmBR case?? Also I've heard mixed messages that its possible on the tikka t3 with 22-250 mags ?!?!

No I've never heard of the 6RAT sounds similar to 6mm Beggs!!
Must be very efficient
It could be an option for the 527 build if my repeater 30BR becomes too hard

Thanks Andrew

Andrew, My own experiences with trying to make a M700 work as a repeater with the Dasher haven't been good - I got a lot of failures to eject cleanly. However, a friend has build three Dashers on SA 700s with PTG custom bolts (with Sako extractors), and has had no issue with any of the three, using B-O M5 DBM & AICS magazines. He did modify the ejector plungers (as did I) to allow them to protrude farther from the boltface, so that may be key to his success.

Sweet, Mr Dennis. Ive dreamed of doing a rifle EXACTLY like that for a long while now. 6mm RAT/6mm AR-Turbo/etc in a CZ 527 would make a perfect truck gun/walking varmint rig/WT deer etc. And weight/recoil will be way down. How does it shoot? Think we could get some pics?

Mine shoots good - not as good as my Dashers, but good. I haven't spent much time shooting it from the bench, just enough to get a decent 100yd zero for the scope, nor have I shot it on paper out past 200yds yet. Seems like once I got it finished and the scope zeroed, something else came along, and the CZ got set aside. Whatever - this is the only photo I've taken of the completed CZ RAT so far.
