This may get shot down but I will ask anyway. Are there any smiths/machinists out there that would be willing to mill out a 1911 slide made from MY damascus/pattern welded steel? The idea is that I want to make my dad a knife, pen, pencil and pistol "set" all out of my steel. I can handle the knife, pen and pencil. I do not have the skill and/or tooling to mill out a slide. I do have a mill but again, I think it is probably beyond my machining skills. Thanks in advance for any help.

OP wants a damascus slide machined from damascus steel HE MADE....not an off the shelf version. A local 1911 smith here has several "factory" damascus slides on order and was told many months wait. I am an American Bladesmith Society Master smith and have been making damascus since the mid 80's. I also do gunsmithing and have incorporated my steel in many rifle builds....quarter ribs, grip caps, etc. I think the OP should contact one of the companies machining slides and inquire about providing the material to them for machining. WRH51 PM if you'd like input from my experiences using damascus for gun parts.
