Some years back, New Hampshire had it's own scandal and the Chief Justice resigned rather than face impeachment. The rest of the justices decided to fight. One even offered testimony during the proceedings saying, "I had to choose between loyalty to a friend and fidelity to the Constitution. I chose loyalty to a friend." (That, boys and girls, is called a confession.)
I offered my neighbor a wager of $100,000 that there would be no consequences of any substance.
If memory serves me correctly, they were "Censured." No consequence of substance.
He had wisely declined the wager. He was also a House Representative.
Oh, the justice quoted above was later elevated to Chief Justice.

I think life in prison and a $5.5M fine for thoroughly abusing the public trust is pretty light. Those folks took food out of how many 10s of thousands of mouths, all so they could live a better life of their own?
This really pisses me off, not because I live there, but because I know that there are fuckers like that everywhere in .gov. Here, there, wherever all of you are, you've got people fuckin' around in the worst way when they've got important jobs to do.
I think by the time they get brought up on charges, they've consumed almost exactly enough of the tax payer's money and what comes after is THE cheapest fuckin' option available.
You know, it makes me wonder. Were these once good people who were turned to the dark side when they got their first taste of the easy life, or, were they the sycophantic little fucks in school who were on the student council and connived their way through college taking subjective classes writing bullshit theses for cocksucking professors whom handed them out A’s like they were fucking snickers bars?

I don't think an accurate answer to that question is possible if we just consider the way things are today.
I hypothesize that if you had assessed the character of people that occupied public positions periodically since our nation began, you'd see the ratio of decent fucks to deplorable pieces of shit started to tilt significantly at some point around the early 1800s, and has probably fluctuated wildly since then.
But, I would wager that if you took a sample of what's available today, the distribution would be heavy on abject retards (maybe as much as 40%!), strong on genuine malevolent sociopaths (15-20%), and some trace elements making up the rest (like serious fucking criminals (5% or so), dumbshit criminals you don't understand how they ever got there (another 5% or so), foreign fucking spies (maybe 8% or so, possibly more), and some remainder of benign but diligent people interested in participating in local, state, or federal government and getting shit done for one reason or another.)
I'd say the odds are in favor of people like that got to where they are BECAUSE they were crooked pieces of shit since the beginning. Always some slimey motherfucker extending a hand to those looking to 'get in' if they're ok with a few constraints, like you'll vote this way, do this shit, and bang all the hookers you want, just don't get caught!
And they want us to give a shit about the laws they write.
Next time you see a minimum wage ghetto kid bash a window and steal shit, remember this. Not saying it's right, but one is obviously much more grievous than the other but see which one gets held accountable. And ironically, by who.
It's time to unplug the money from government and force a constitutional amendment or else we will be in a civil war, it's only a matter of time. It won't be easy, it'll be worse than taking heroin away from a junkie but that's where we're at.
