They are going to have the Presidential Limo lap it at speed.... and President The Donald is the Grand Marshall.

I've been pretty much over NASCAR since Car of the Future, Playoffs and go-kart-fags throwing helmets. But I grew up on the ABC broadcasts in the '70s and '80s when it was real racing. Not so much any more. Too much Wall St. and Soccer mom's.

But it would take a herd of oxen, a minefield and a date with Claudia Schiffer (c. 1997, not now as she is old and shriveled) to keep me from watching tomorrow. Jumping Jeesis on a pogo stick... 'Merika!!!!

I could care less what the Toyotas and Prius and Ford Escorts do. I just want to see 'My Man" as grand Marshall!

Winning.... no, not tired of it yet. Make the "carbon hurts my vagina" set triggered again!

Ever been to the track? I did the tour last time I was in the area. Quite the place.

Hell I haven’t even been to Texas motor speedway and I’ve lived less than 50 miles from it my entire life. Wouldn’t mind going one day though.

Running a few hot laps of the road course (infield and outer oval including the "bus stop") in a Porsche 911 GT2 (997 generation) gave me a new appreciation for that vehicle and the course. Executing a set of perfect heal-toe downshifts coming into the chicane was as satisfying as anything I've ever done behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.

It wasn't as scary as riding in the back of a Econoline with Hurley Haywood at the wheel. He demonstrating the physics of the banking by going hands-off the steering wheel at something near the van's terminal velocity, while at the same time making the appropriate hand gestures to show the geometry at work.

Regardless of my disdain for NASCAR's "product", I'm not inclined to question the courage of the drivers who go fender-to-fender on that track for a few hours.

I prefer drag racing, if I had to watch racing. I went to the mile high nationals when I was in school. Pretty sweet. I have never really watched it on TV though.
 
My buddy offered me four tickets to the NASCAR race in Phoenix in March. I’ve never been, so I’ll probably go for the experience.
 
Listened/watched Nascar since the '60s. Still remember hearing the announcer describe the Fireball Roberts crash. Lost interest with the arrival of the COF.

I"ll watch the pre-game festivities and the last 10 laps.
 
Daytona is good. Bristol used to be a lot better.... they never should have paved it. N. Wilkesboro and Rockingham were fun.... Dover is Bristol on steroids and probably better now.

I think they need to go back to 250,000 production units of the model must be made in the engine block size before they could race. Win on Sunday... Sell on Monday.

Went to the Firecracker 400 (it's the 2nd race in early July) like 10 years ago. It's amazing how you can see who's fast and who's slow live. You don't get that on TV.

I'd get behind that idea. Both the Ford EcoBoost V6 and GM LS/LTx have established their competition resumes in endurance racing. I'd much prefer seeing these engines in NASCAR than I would some bespoke unit like the R07 that has no relevance to anything in my garage.

A buddy and I cut school and went to Martinsville, must have been around 67-68, and saw the King, Richard Petty. It wasnt til years later that my old man asked me "How did you enjoy the race?" Turns out he was there with a friend who was a crack news photographer and they spotted us. Damn, sometimes I miss that old boy.

My favorite NASCAR moment was at the fall race in Martinsville in 1975. Parked my '73 Dodge Dart in the infield. The highlight was peeing in the long trough in the restroom standing right next to Cale Yarborough. Fans can't get much closer than that to the drivers!

Been to the Daytona twice in the last 7yrs.

Here's my impression.

Wow, that's fast and noisy.
Here comes all the litter and dirt.
Well, there they go, we'll see you in a couple of minutes.

Oh, here they come again.
Damn, that was fast and noisy.
Here comes the litter and dirt.

Rinse and repeat a couple hundred times between crashes and buying overpriced food and drinks.

Walk out after it's over and hoof it a mile or two to the truck.
Spend two hours driving 20 miles and another hour and a half driving back to the other side of the state.

The highlight of the day would be morning coffee and a good poop.

There was a rain delay the year I attended. Race didn't end until after midnight. Took two hours to get out of the parking lot. My in-laws only live about 15 minutes away. Went to bed like 4 am. It was exhausting. Glad I did it. Don't know if I'd do it again. The rain delay really extended the day beyond what I'd call enjoyable. It is one hell of circus though.

Tony Stewart was so much faster than anyone else on the track that day and you could really see it in person. Does not translate over TV.

How or why any 2A loving American would even consider supporting NASCAR by even tuning in is beyond me. I get our President is going to be there, but it doesn't change the fact that they've succumbed to the Gun Grabbers. Fuck me once and expect my support? Ya, that's never gonna happen. Ever.

While my son attended Embry Riddle, got a job at Grassroots Motorsports (magazine) and they put together a car for the 24 Hours of Lemons. A junk car that a team would drive on the regular 24 course. My son drove in that race. He also crewed for a few teams for serious racing but never for NASCAR. He went into IndyCar and worked for AJ Foyt. He got a call one day and Dale Jr was looking to offer him a job. He declined and worked for Foyt for another year. The time living out of a suitcase got to him and he now works for Dan Gurney All American Racers. Sad that they don't do anymore racing, but they do a lot of work for SpaceX. My son turned 30 this past week and I often think about how much he has seen and accomplished. I'm proud of what he's done.

Grew up on NASCAR and lived 30 min from Talladega. went t every race .
Lost interest in the late 90's when it became so "commercialised". Along with all the rules they were coming up with. It looked so stupid seeing pit crew members running around in full faced helmets.


They are also embracing the green movement

I have to retract my previous comment about having the smoker primed and ready. Came across a Mexican meat market selling skirt steak out of a rolling trash can. 2 pounds of steak marinated and ready for the grill. Now it’s a real nascar party.

The two times I went were at the begging and pleading of a high school friend.

Told him I wasn't interested in it and he just couldn't understand why. His life is nascar and car stuff on tv.

Anyhoo, he insisted that I go and he would buy the tickets. All I had to do was ride along and watch the race.
So I reluctantly agreed.
For the next month all he would talk about was how much fun it would be and what our itinerary was.
I was sick of it two weeks before the race.
Once we got there, the conditions were miserable and cold for Florida.

Not a fun time.

Like a dumbass, I went again the next year with pit passes and all. Again, not my money.
Conditions were perfect, much like today.
After seeing everything for the second time, the coffee and the poop were still the highlite of the day.

I am an Old AMA Flattrack motorsicle racer so I understand "Go Fast and Turn Left"
This event has me exited to watch it, Now if Mother Nature cooperates we will have a good race.
Proud of My President and wish the "Trophy Girls" where I won looked as good as his Lady does. FM

I am, more like was, a huge (and not just in size) racing fan. When the greed set in, much like sports, I quit watching. I much more enjoy the local Saturday night races. I dont see this changing until the sponsors all pull out. That could happen at anytime with the way things are going.

seriously though, that guy was from Birmingham so I didn't know him .
Pace car goes flying down the track , NASCAR official via the radio "Who's that fucker in the pace car"?
What was funny was when they got him stopped and tryed to get him out .
They had a set of keys and they keep playing musical door locks , as soon as they would unlock it , he would lock it. he did a really good job for a while and eventually lost .

I won't disagree, but F1 is no better... once the race starts, unless the leader crashes or the Pit Crew messes up, the pole sitter wins the race... I can't think of much in racing these days that hasn't been lamed down. Excep LeMans, Dakar and Isle of Mann TT.
