I have a Model 70 in 300 WSM that I am building up as a long range rifle and I can't find many options for a DBM system for it. The only thing I have found is the CDI and I have heard that the receiver needs to be modified to accept AICS mags. What I am wondering is, can I pick up a DBM system off of an FN SPR that I have heard is close to the same gun, and retrofit it to fit my Model 70? And if not, do I have any other options? Thanks.

Re: DBM for Model 70

I believe the CDI with AI/Alpha mags are your only option. I have an FN SPR in 300 WSM. I was considering the same option as yourself but talking with a well known smith on this board,he stated it wasn't a very reliable system.

Not to mention the mag length restraints with COL with the heavy bullets.

I couldn't see spending 500.00+ dollars on something that wasn't reliable.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Jared

Re: DBM for Model 70

CDI is one of the few, if not only, bets for the Win m70 platform. I am running it currently on my setup and I couldn't be happier.

Believe it or not, I had a lot of FTF's with my stock mag well (an older long action .243 win), but the AICS mags line up the round with the chamber and life is good.

I had Jeff at CDI do all the inletting for my stock and action, very little metal is actually removed.

Re: DBM for Model 70

I believe the FN/CDI system is reliable for 308 Win based cartridges, the problems comes to light when trying to feed the WSM cartridges. I was told unless you modify standard AI magazines they will not feed the WSM. How much modifying, I'm not sure.

The other option is the Alpha magazine which are made specifically for the WSM. Although, at the early stages of development, it was stated they were not recommended for the FN/WIN 70 action. That could have changed but I'm not sure.

Kind regards,
Jared

Re: DBM for Model 70

Thank you for the details, that clears it up for me. I have been planning on buying an SPR a1 this year as my first precision rifle and wanted to use the CDI dbm to allow for a more standardized mag as well as 5 & 10rd capacity. I will be going with a .308 so it appears I will have no problems and will continue as planned. I appreciate the info.
