So today I got my DD 7.62 lite rail 12.0.
Was looking it over and seems like a great rail. Cant mount it yet since my action block and wrench haven't showed up yet.

The question I have is, does the bolt up plate and the rails sandwich the barrel nut to secure everything?
Or does the bolt up plate snug up once you tighten the barrel nut all the way down?

Instead of the action block I made a jig using some oak and had cut outs for the receiver's lugs to fit into. Locked up tight in a vice and was cheaper than an action block...just a thought if your wrench is showing up soon than the action block.

Re: DD 7.62 lite rail question

Back from the dead...

I bought a used GA Precision built DPMS LR308 with this rail on it. I have been getting very inconsistent performance from the rifle and began inspecting things. I found that there is very little clearance between the bottom of the gas block and the rail. So little that I believed that they may be coming in contact with one another when the bipod gets loaded, but I couldn't verify...until today.

After shooting today, I see that there is wear on the bottom of the gas block indicating that they are indeed contacting one another during shooting creating a non-free-floated barrel.

I am FAR from a gunsmith, as I have only basic hand tools. I don't know if it would be advisable for myself to remove the handguard as that would require removal of the barrel nut (and barrel?) and potentially screw up any goodness that GAP puts into their barrel alignment. I haven't the slightest idea.

I've attached a few pictures to try and give some insight as to what my problem is. What are my options? If the rail were only 1/8" shorter, there wouldn't be a problem. Believe me, in my frustrations I've almost taken out the Dremel with a cut-off wheel....

Re: DD 7.62 lite rail question

Disregard, impatience got the best of me. I figured out that the rail can be taken off without messing with the barrel at all. I took off the rail, spent 60 minutes on the gas block with a needle file, and I'm back in business with a free floated barrel.
