Time to start tinkering again. I've got a full PSA build that's been bouncing around in the truck for a couple years now and I'm wanting to give it a little love.

Currently it shoots minute of paper plate, usually, and it bugs me enough I want to get a new barrel for it. Again, this is a back seat beater, so I'm trying to keep it at about $200. I only shoot cheap 55gr soft points through this thing, so here is what I'm after.

Sub $200
14.5"
1:9
Standard profile
Carbine gas
1-2 moa would be great

If I can find someone that can build the barrel then pin and weld a key-mo brake on at the same that would rock. I'll send them the brake or buy it separate, so that doesn't go into the budget for the barrel.

Suggestions? There are lots of places I can get one that works, but I haven't seen anyone that can pin/weld at the same time.

Wait for a sale at ballistic advantage, they have never done me wrong. I even bought a .936 308 barrel “Second” from them, it was chambered wrong (I have no idea what was actually wrong, but wouldn’t load) they paid return shipping and I guess overnighted me a replacement with an apology. I’m sticking with them on parts guns from now on, my next will be a 12.5 Grendel

if you can deal with mid gas and a 1-8 twist, the Rainier Arms select barrels shoot good for the money. $170ish

You can get a Colt SOCOM barrel for about $220 but it’s a 556 chamber and 1-7 twist

CDDN had Remington defense socom barrels for $199. Same specs as the colt though

I'd looked at Rainier also. The gas length and twist aren't deal breakers, but the don't make a cheaper one in a wylde chamber.

I'm thinking presidents day might have a couple sales come up and I'll see what I can find.

A member had a nice Noveske 14.5" with minimal rounds down range for sale recently. Think I t was mid gas though. I seriously thought about it but am keeping my barrels to 10.5 or 16 on ARs. Well, except the .22 LR and PCC........ :giggle:

It was @Docsherm if he still has it. Nice guy, would not hesitate to do business with him again.

Sorry it sold.

I would look st the SS Ballistic Advantage. Good barrels.

PSA’s generally aren’t the pinnacle of accuracy but it should shoot better than minute of pie plate. What optic, and trigger are you running? Also when you say cheap 55gr soft points, are they factory loads? Have you tried anything else through it?

Ar 15 performance.com his barrels will shoot, and are right around the $200.

I've got an ARP in 6 pred. I hadn't even thought about them for a standard barrel. Doh.

As far as the PSA barrel, I've tried a few things through it. Im shooting the hornady spire points in my reloads. Granted, I run them through fast on a Lee turret, but I've done the same with 308s and 6.5s and they've shot significantly better. I've also shot some factory stuff just to check and it wasn't any better. The trigger is a polished up factory crap job, but not terrible enough to open up groups to where they are. Optic is a bushy ar optics 4-12, so plenty of mag to shoot groups. Nothing fancy, but I don't think its the problem either.

This budget back seat beater is quickly turning into a mid-tier softie....

I love my Faxon gunner profile and also had the keymo pinned. I'd suggest checking out the SOLGW Nox muzzle device. It's a blend of the standard key mo flash hider with ports drilled for some compensation. Mine was shooting roughly 1.5moa with a red dot. I just mounted a PA 1-6x ACSS to it and plan to take it out soon with some 62gr hand loads and some mk262 clone hand loads.
