I'm currently running a SAC alpha II defiance action. I purchased a barrel off of here but now I'm curious what to use in action tool and barrel vise whenever my current barrel gets burnt out. I've never changed out a barrel before so if this is something over my head, maybe I should just have a smith do it for me. only thing is, there isn't one close that I would trust so that's why I'm asking about recommendations.
thank you

Defiance makes action wrenches, and so does Robert Gradous for Defiance actions.

Viper barrel vices are popular.

Sounds like your gun will have to go to a gunsmith anyways, as the barrel will need to be threaded and headspaced for your specific action.

I wasn't specific. I purchased a used barrel that was spun up from mark @ sac. I emailed him and asked if all defiance actions were exact when he purchased them to SAC. he said they are very close. Mark: "From what I can tell the barrel should match up very closely. The action timing number on D's action is 1.5 and your action is 1.3. So for the most part it is extremely close. From what I can tell, they should match up well and fit and headspace.

Not much to changing a barrel. In addition to the barrel vise and action wrench you'll want a torque wrench so you can repeat the process exactly the same each time. Use anti-seize on the threads when you put on the new barrel. I wrap the barrel in a piece of thin cardboard so the barrel vise doesn't scratch up the finish.

Will probably be tight coming off the first time, but if it feels like it's galling or having any problems moving then STOP and call a gunsmith. Don't want to ruin anything. I torque my barrels to around 65 ft/lb, some guys go more some less. At this level they're not going to move, but they aren't terribly hard to break free later on either.

Thanks Sheldon. You have helped me out before and here u go, helping me out again. I’m not quite to the barrel swap stage yet but it’s getting close and I’ve never done a barrel swap before. Thanks again sir!
I have the torque wrench, just not action wrench or barrel vise. Looks like viper maybe a good choice. Looks like defiance makes a rear entry action tool, just didn’t know if something out there worked better or maybe even a little cheaper bc I might be doing this not that often

I think the viper vice is a good choice based on what I've read, but take a look at the 21st Century barrel vice too. I am thinking about picking one up for myself for a barrel install I will be doing in a few months.
